Box Score Greencastle, Ind.- After dropping a tough 1-0 decision to the second-ranked team in the nation last weekend, the DePauw men's soccer team got back in the win column, defeating the College of Wooster by a final score of 5-2.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Fighting Scots dropped to 3-6-1 on the year and 0-2 in the NCAC.
The Tigers applied early pressure, as Julian Gonzalez drew a foul in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Adrian Ables connected on the penalty in the fourth minute, putting DePauw up 1-0.
On the day when Reavis Stadium was dedicated it was Mitch Reavis who scored the second goal of the contest on an assist from Mitch Tabler. Reavis provided an assist on Gonzalez's goal in the 32nd minute.
Wooster's Matthew Kelley put the Fighting Scots on the board just before half when he headed in a pass from Marco Sapien.
Up 3-1 after the first half, it was Gonzalez who led the Tigers' offense in the second stanza. Gonzalez scored a pair of unassisted goals in the 47th and 71st minutes, extending DePauw's lead to 5-1.
Zach Jergan added a late goal for Wooster when he scored on a penalty kick in the 79th minute.
DePauw outshot Wooster 12-5, while the Fighting Scots held a 5-4 edge on corner kicks. The Tigers tallied 16 fouls and two yellow cards, and Wooster had 12 fouls with two yellow cards.
Jake Pezzuto and Chris Yount each grabbed a save in the win, while Alex Molinari made seven saves in a losing effort.
The Tigers are back in action Saturday, October 11, when travel to Ohio Wesleyan for a key NCAC matchup.
