DePauw Sweeps Doubleheader with St. Olaf

Winter Haven, Fla. - DePauw improved to 5-4 on the season following a doubleheader sweep of St. Olaf. The Tigers won the first game, 6-5, and took the nightcap, 9-2. St. Olaf dropped to 7-5 with the losses.

In the opener, St. Olaf jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first as the first three batters reached base and scored. The Tigers came right back as Robbie Stein tripled and scored on Zach Galyean's grounder.

DePauw took a 4-3 lead with three in the bottom of the second as Connor Einertson tripled and scored on Paul Mpistolarides' ground out. Two unearned runs followed after the Oles committed three errors in the frame.

St. Olaf regained the lead in the third when Nick Denn reached on an error and scored on Adam Johnson's homer, but DePauw took the win with Mpistolarides' run-scoring single in the third and Galyean's sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Stein, Einertson and Mpistolarides each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while eight different St. Olaf players had one hit apiece.

Alex Sroka improved to 1-0 with the win, while Joe Wojda collected his third save. Trent Freidr dropped to 0-1 for the Oles.

In the nightcap, DePauw did all of its damage in the opening two innings with four in the first and five in the second. The Oles scratched across single runs in the third and fifth innings.

Stein, Galyean and Ryan Allee each had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Kap Davis had two of St. Olaf's five hits.

Jordan Niespodziany picked up the win, allowing just one earned run in six innings to improve to 1-0. Max Wolfram suffered the loss and dropped to 0-1.

DePauw faces Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a 12:45 p.m. single game tomorrow.
