#11 DePauw Splits Baseball Doubleheader at Ohio Wesleyan

Delaware, Ohio - After dropping a 2-1 decision in game one at Ohio Wesleyan, 11th-ranked DePauw scored 17 runs in the final three innings for a 21-9 win and a doubleheader split. DePauw is now 25-5 overall and 10-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference West Division play, while Ohio Wesleyan is 15-11 overall and 3-5 in the NCAC.

In the opener, Steve Gaydos singled with two outs in the third and Tim Knezovich followed with a two-run homer to right.

Alex Wright led off the DePauw fourth by being hit by a pitch and moved to second on Brendon Pashia's single. Alex Berlyn advanced both with a sacrifice bunt. J.B. McCallum drew a two-out walk to load the bases and Pat Lyons  drove in Wright after being hit by a pitch.

Rob McPike and Pashia each had two of DePauw's five hits, while Frank Knezovich had two of the Battling Bishops' three hits.

Michael Chiaro dropped to 3-1 despite allowing just three hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Brandon Sega improved to 2-2, while J.J. Buckey picked up his first save.

In the nightcap, the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the first before DePauw took the lead with three in the second and one more in the fourth.

The Battling Bishops evened the score in the fourth at 4-4 with three runs. Each teams scored five in the sixth, but the Tigers pulled away with five in the seventh and seven more in the eighth.

DePauw totaled 17 hits led by Lyons with four and two each from Pashia, McPike, Robbie Stein and Ryan Allee. Lyons and Pashia each drove in four, while Allee and Lyons each scored four.

Ohio Wesleyan finished with 14 hits paced by three each from James Toland and Buckey.

Dylan Sheldon picked up his first collegiate win and improved to 1-0, while Greg Hock dropped to 2-2.

DePauw hosts Wabash on Saturday, April 14, in a Noon doubleheader.
