#18 Tigers Off to Best Start in School History Following Win at Oglethorpe

Atlanta, Ga. - DePauw scored five times in the first two innings and held on to a 7-5 win at Oglethorpe. The Tigers, ranked 18th in the latest coaches' poll and 21st by D3baseball.com, improved to 18-3 for the first time in school history, while Oglethorpe slipped to 7-15.

J.B. McCallum led off the game by reaching on a walk before Brendon Pashia was hit by pitch and Rob McPike also walked. Jason Cohen then walked which drove in McCallum. Robbie Stein later drove a two-run single to right center to make it 2-0 DePauw.

McCallum led off the second with a walk and crossed the plate when Brendon Pashia homered to left field. McCallum's leadoff homer in the fourth pushed DePauw's lead to 6-0.

Oglethorpe scored two in the fifth as Hunter Riley singled with one our and moved to second when Vernon Trice reached on catcher's interference. Jake Spear singled through the left side scoring Riley. After Cory Leff singled, Joseph Parillo singled to center allowing Nick Manai to score.

The Stormy Petrels added two more in the sixth as J McAlpin led off with a single. stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Frank Sarno and Riley each walked to load the bases before Manai drove in Joey McAlpin with a ground out and Jake Spear brought home Sarno with a sacrifice fly.

Oglethorpe scored the game's final run in the eighth as Josh Morgan was hit by a pitch and moved to third on Manai's base hit. Spear then doubled down the left field line to trim the DePauw lead to 7-5.

DePauw totaled nine hits led by McPike and Ryan Allee with two each. Manai and Spear each had two of Oglethorpe's eight hits.

Joe Wojda improved to 2-1 after collecting the win in relief. Cody Campbell dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

The Tigers take on nationally-ranked Piedmont tomorrow at 7 p.m.
