Tigers Improve to 10-2 with Doubleheader Sweep of Manchester

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw improved to 10-2 on the season and collected its seventh win in the last eight games after sweeping a doubleheader against Manchester at Walker Field.

The Tigers won the first game, 8-1, and took the nightcap, 6-3. Manchester dropped to 4-4 with the losses.

DePauw jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Zach Galyean and Jason Cohen each singled and advanced a base on a passed ball. Robbie Stein then delivered a two-run single.

Alex Berlyn led off the DePauw second with a single and moved to third on Sam Swafford's hit-and-run single through the right side. Pat Lyons' sacrifice bunt allowed Berlyn to score and gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers expanded their lead to 6-0 in the third after Jason Cohen led off with a double and moved to third on Stein's single. Brendon Pashia then launched a three-run homer to left.

Manchester reached the scoreboard in the fourth when Dan Maringer hit a one out, solo homer to left.

DePauw added two more in the sixth as Lyons singled and later scored on Galyean's base hit. Cohen's triple to center brought home Galyean.

The Tigers totaled 13 hits in the opener with Cohen leading with three. Galyean, Stein and Berlyn added two apiece. Pashia drove in three in the win.

Michael Chiaro tossed a three-hitter and improved to 1-0, while Beau Shenefield slipped to 1-1 with the loss.

In the nightcap, DePauw scored two in the fifth on Berlyn's two-run homer before Manchester tied the game in the top of the sixth when Corey Marchant and Dan Maringer reached on walks and scored on Jordan Nieman's triple to center.

The Tigers broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth as Rob McPike doubled and scored on Cohen's single. They added two more in the seventh when Starr hit a two-run homer for his fourth four-bagger in the last five games.

Manchester plated one in the eighth as it loaded the bases and Nieman drew a bases loaded walk scoring Brad Murphy.

DePauw's final run was in the eighth as McPike singled and later scored on Berlyn's sacrifice fly.

McPike led DePauw with three hits, while Cohen finished with two. Berlyn drove in three in the win. Nieman and Bryce Murphy each had two of Manchester's nine hits and Nieman drove in three.

Brendan Bolander picked up the win in relief and improved to 2-0, while Bryce Murphy suffered the loss and dropped to 0-1. Joe Wojda pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, March 17, when it hosts Ohio Northern in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
