DePauw Splits Baseball Twinbill at Manchester

North Manchester, Ind. - DePauw is 8-2 on the season after splitting a doubleheader at Manchester as the Tigers won the first game, 6-2, and dropped the nightcap, 8-4. Manchester is 4-2 after the split. The two teams face each other in Greencastle in a 1 p.m. doubleheader tomorrow at Walker Field.

Sam Swafford put DePauw on the board first with an RBI single in the fourth which scored Zach Starr who led off the inning with a base hit.

Manchester knotted the score in the bottom of the inning when Dan Maringer singled with two outs, moved to third on Corey Marchat's base hit and scored on Jordan Nieman's single.

DePauw's Zach Galyean led off the fifth by reaching on an error. He moved to second on a balk and scored on Rob McPike's double. McPike scored on Alex Wright's sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.

Manchester's Kyle Norris led off the fifth with a homer to trim the Tigers lead to 3-2, but DePauw added three in the seventh when Starr hit a three-run homer for his third home run in the last two games.

DePauw totaled nine hits led by Starr's three and two each from McPike and Swafford. Four different Spartans collected one hit apiece.

Elliott Ross improved to 1-1 with the complete game win as he struck out five without allowing a walk. Justin Scott dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

Once again DePauw took the lead in the second game as Brendon Pashia hit a two-out double and scored on Galyean's single. Marchant's two-run double in the third gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead and his two-run homer in the fifth extended Manchester's lead to 4-1.

DePauw evened the score at 4-4 with three runs in the seventh as Pashia's bases loaded single plated Starr. Swafford then scored on a wild pitch and Chris Forbringer later came home on Galyean's grounder.

The lead was short-lived as Marchant delivered a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh and Nieman followed with a solo shot.

DePauw totaled six hits led by Pashia's three. Marchant went 4-for-4 for the Spartans and drove in seven. Brad Murphy added two hits as the Spartans finished with 10.

Brian Tarnoski improved to 1-0 with the win, while Andy Manson dropped to 2-1 with the loss.
