Box Score April 3, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw improved to 10-15 overall and 2-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference after a 10-3 win over visiting Oglethorpe in the final game of a three-game series. The Stormy Petrels dropped to 14-12 overall and 4-4 in SCAC play.
Oglethorpe jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Jeff Pope led off with a single and moved to second on a stolen base. Matt Cornwell followed with a run-scoring single. Brendan Pilger walked and Jeff Brothers singled to load the bases. Cory Leff hit into a double play which allowed Cornwell to score.
DePauw countered in the bottom of the first as Ben Gardner led off with a single and moved to second on Sam Swafford's sacrifice bunt. Rob McPike was hit by a pitch before Jason Cohen followed with a triple which tied the score. Alex Wright lifted a sacrifice fly to right plating Cohen and Zach Galyean added a solo homer to left center to make it 4-2.
Andy Farrey and Ryan Grau singled in the second and advanced on Jake Spear's sacrifice bunt. Pope followed with a grounder which scored Farrey.
The Tigers grabbed a 6-3 lead in the second as Gardner led off with a triple and scored on Swafford's single. Swafford moved up to second after an error on the play, advanced to third on McPike's bunt and scored when Cohen reached on an error.
DePauw added another in the fourth as Galyean led off with a double and came home on Robbie Stein's single. The Tigers extended the lead to 10-3 in the sixth as Gardner reached second on a fielding error and later scored on Cohen's double. Wright knocked in Cohen with a single and later scored when Berlyn reached on an error with the bases loaded.
DePauw totaled 14 hits led by Stein's four, while Cohen had three. Gardner and Galyean each added a pair and Gardner extended his streak of reaching base to all 25 games this season.
Pope, Brothers and Grau each had two of the Stormy Petrels' nine hits.
Andy Manson improved to 2-1 with the win, while Mark Hoban dropped to 2-2.
DePauw returns to action on Wednesday, April 6, with a 6 p.m. game at Rose-Hulman.
