April 17, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. —  DePauw completed a weekend Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference sweep of Centre college with a pair of wins today and, in the process, earned a spot in the SCAC Championship which starts on Thursday, April 21, in Millington, Tenn.

The Tigers opened with an 11-4 win in the completion of yesterday's second game which was halted due to rain and then picked up a 7-2 victory in today's scheduled contest. With the wins, DePauw improved to 15-18 overall and finished SCAC play at 6-6. The Colonels dropped to 13-21 overall and 6-9 in conference play. 

DePauw earned the second seed from the SCAC East Division and open play in the SCAC Championship against the second seed from the West Division at 3:30 p.m. CDT.

In yesterday's second game, Centre took a 1-0 lead in the second as Cody Nelson reached after being hit by a pitch. He moved to second on Charlie Holland's sacrifice bunt and scored on Jordan Burgess' double. 

DePauw took the lead in the third as Sam Swafford drew a leadoff walk and moved to second when Aaron Henry reached on an error of his sacrifice bunt. Both moved up one base following a wild pitch before Alex Berlyn delivered a sacrifice fly to right scoring Swafford. Zach Galyean then collected an infield single before Rob McPike drove two in with a triple. McPike came home on Jason Cohen's single which gave DePauw a 4-1 lead.

Nelson led off the Centre fourth with a homer before Burgess was hit by a pitch, moved to second on Sean Cole's grounder and scored on Aaron Ammann's single. Ammann scored from first on Danny Freudiger's single down the right field line to tie the score at 4-4.

Ben Gardner and Galyean each doubled to start the DePauw fifth and give the Tigers a 5-4 lead before McPike singled and Cohen scored Galyean with a base hit. Alex Wright reached on a bunt single, but a throw wide of first allowed both McPike and Cohen to score. Later in the inning, Swafford doubled and scored on Henry's single. The game was stopped as Gardner came back up to back for the second time in the inning. 

The teams waited until 5:46 p.m. when the decision was made to resume play on Sunday.

DePauw added two more in the sixth as McPike and Cohen hit back-to-back doubles and Alex Wright followed with a run-scoring single.

The Tigers totaled 17 hits led by four each from McPike and Cohen. Wright added three and Galyean finished with two. Freudiger led Centre with three of its eight hits. 

Elliott Ross improved to 4-4 with the win, while Andy Hagerman dropped to 1-2. michael Chiaro pitched four scoreless innings of relief for his first save.

In the regularly scheduled game, DePauw scored two in the first as Gardner led off with a single, Galyean walked and both McPike and Cohen reached after being hit by pitches allowing Gardner to score. Wright followed with a sacrifice fly giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Henry led off the second with a single and advanced to second on Berlyn's sacrifice bunt. Gardner was hit by a pitch and Galyean hit into a fielder's choice. After Galyean stole second, McPike hit a two-run single which pushed the lead to 4-0.

Centre reached the board in the third as John Clark led off with a walk before Ammann and Freudiger followed with bunt singles to load the bases. Steven Proctor grounded out to first which allowed Clark to score and Fishman followed with a single which scored Ammann.

The Tigers added two more in the third as Cohen led off with a single and scored on Wright's triple to right. Robbie Stein followed with a single which plated Wright and gave DePauw a 6-2 advantage. DePauw extended the lead to 7-2 in the fourth as Gardner reached after being hit by a pitch and moved to third on Galyean's double. McPike drove in Gardner with a sacrifice fly to center.

DePauw totaled 13 hits led by McPike and Henry with three each. Cohen and Stein each added two. Ammann totaled two of Centre's seven hits.

Andy Manson improved to 4-1 with the complete game win, while Cory Crowdis dropped to 1-1.
