Box Score March 23, 2011, Demorest, Ga. — DePauw led after each of its first three at bats, but the Tigers were held scoreless over the final six innings as host Piedmont took an 11-6 win. The Tigers dropped to 7-14 with their ninth straight loss, while the Lions improved to 15-9.
DePauw took a 2-0 lead in the first as Jason Cohen drove in Sam Swafford with a double and Alex Wright plated Rob McPike with a single. Piedmont countered in the bottom of the first as Curtis Cornett blasted a three-run homer.
In the second, Ben Gardner and Swafford each reached after being hit by pitches. McPike followed with a double that scored Gardner before Cohen added a grounder that scored Swafford. Wright's single brought home McPike and gave the Tigers a 5-3 lead.
Piedmont's Dave Bartek was hit by a pitch and scored on Kyle Davis' triple in the second. DePauw extended its lead to 6-3 in the third as Alex Berlyn singled home Pat Lyons.
The Lions knotted the score in the third as Kevin McConnnell drove in one with a single before Dale Bartek knocked in a pair with a base hit.
DePauw was held scoreless the rest of the way, but Piedmont scored one in the fifth as Dale Bartek's groundout drove in McConnell. The Lions added three more in the seventh on a two-run double off the bat of Dale Bartek and a run-scoring single by Davis.
The Tigers totaled 10 hits paced by two each from Gardner, Wright and Lyons. Gardner has now reached base in all 21 games this season. Piedmont finished with 14 hits as John Duke and McConnell each had three. Davis, Cornett and Dale Bartek each had two while Bartek drove in five.
Alex Sroka dropped to 0-1 with the loss, while Dustin Black improved to 3-3.
DePauw returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday, March 26, when it travels to Sewanee for a Noon CDT doubleheader.
