Box Score 2 February 27, 2011, Louisville, Ky. — DePauw dropped the opening game of its doubleheader with Transylvania, but rallied for a 7-1 win in the nightcap to earn the split. The Tigers are 2-3 on the season, while the Pioneers are 1-1.
DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the opener with an unearned run in the second before Transylvania scored two in the third, one in the fourth and four in the fifth.
The Tigers scored their final three runs in the ninth on an RBI single from Jason Cohen, a sacrifice fly by Alex Wright and a run-scoring single off the bat of Zach Galyean.
DePauw totaled 11 hits with Cohen, Wright and Sam Swafford collecting two apiece. Transylvania totaled 13 hits led by Elliot Desilets with three and two each from Drew Zuckerman and Ryan Troehler. Zuckerman hammered a three-run homer in the fifth.
Tigers starter Elliott Ross dropped to 1-1 with the loss, while Taylor Bugh improved to 1-1.
In the nightcap, Transylvania scored one in the fourth as Evan Rhea's bases loaded groundout plated Thomas Tolliver.
Play was suspended due to lightning with Rob McPike batting in the top of the fifth and the game just one strike away from being official. When play resumed. McPike hit a 3-2 pitch for a two-run homer which scored Ben Gardner who had doubled prior to the delay.
Swafford's sixth-inning double plated Alex Wright before Wright drove in Samuel Yeary in the seventh with a single. The Tigers added three more in the eighth as Yeary scored a pair with a single and later scored on Cohen's base hit.
DePauw totaled 11 hits led by Swafford's three and two from Yeary and Galyean. The Pioneers collected five hits with Tolliver totaling three and Ben Kuebbing finishing with a pair.
Joe Wojda improved to 1-0 with five innings of two-hit relief, while Jordan Besecker dropped to 0-1.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, March 1, when they face Mount St. Joseph at the University of Cincinnati.
