DePauw Finishes Second at SCAC Baseball Championship

April 25, 2010, Millington, Tenn. —  Trinity scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to break a 1-1 tie and captured the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball championship with a 3-1 victory over DePauw.

Trinity improved to 32-7 with the win, while DePauw dropped to 24-17 and finished second in the league for its best finish since winning the title in 2001.

DePauw struck first with one run in the opening frame as Taylor Hoffman singled and Rob McPike followed with a double. Jason Cohen's sacrifice fly plated Hoffman with the Tigers' only run of the game.

Trinity countered in the sixth as Jonathan Hall hit a solo homer to center. In the eighth, Patrick Frasier drew a one-out walk an John Paillet entered as a pinch-runner. Dylan Early followed with a single which advanced Pallet to third. Hall then singled to left scoring Paillet. Kevin Jackson singled to load the bases and Nick Pappas walked driving in Early.

The Tigers totaled nine hits and left nine on base. Hoffman and Cohen had two hits apiece. Trinity totaled eight hits paced by two each from Hall and Chris Walden.

Trinity's Ryan Lucero improved to 5-1 with the win, while Ben Klimesh pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save. Elliott Ross dropped to 8-2 with the loss.

DePauw hosts Chicago on Saturday, May 1, in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
