Tigers Top Earlham; Second Game Rained Out

March 7, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. —  DePauw scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to break open a close game and top visiting Earlham, 11-3. The game was Earlham's season opener. Game two was called due to rain.

Earlham jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Jake Carr's fielder's choice scored Andrew Morrical who led off the inning with a double. DePauw countered with three in the bottom of the first as Rob McPike doubled home Alex Jacques. Sam Linette then grounded out which scored Jon Newman. .Jason Cohen singled in McPike with the third run.

Cohen doubled home McPike in the third to make it 4-1, but the Quakers added one in the fourth as Russ Yoho singled home Chris Baumann In the fifth Morrical  singled to short, moved to second on Tyler Schroeder's sacrifice bunt and scored on Corey Murray's single to center.

In the sixth, DePauw scored all seven of its runs with two out. With Jacques on second, Newmand singled Jacques home before McPike and Linette hit back-to-back triples. Murray replaced Adam Painter on the mound  with Linette scoring on a wild pitch.

Cohen doubled and Drew Holy walked and both scored on Alex Wright's double. Chris Forbringer wrapped up the scoring with the inning's third triple which plated Wright.

DePauw totaled 13 hits paced by McPike, Cohen and Forbringer with three each. Morrical and Schroeder each had two of Earlham's nine hits.

Brad Gerlach improved to 1-0 after striking out six and walking just one in five innings. Joseph Wojda picked up the save with two innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts. Painter dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

DePauw hosts Alma on Saturday, March 13, in a Noon doubleheader.
