March 31, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — The Tigers jumped out to a 12-0 lead and starter Elliott Ross held visiting Wabash hitless over the first 4 2/3 innings as DePauw took a 14-5 win over Wabash. The Tigers improved to 13-10, while the Little Giants dropped to 9-12.
DePauw opened with five runs in the first inning on five hits with Rob McPike driving in Ben Gardner with a single followed by Jason Cohen's RBI double and Jon Newman's run-scoring single to left. Alex Berlyn drove in a pair with a single up the middle to round out the scoring.
In the third, Alex Jacques (pictured) drove in a pair with a double to right and scored on Gardner's single. Gardner later scored on McPike's ground out and Cohen drove in Hoffman with a single to give the Tigers a 10-0 lead.
Sam Linette and Alex Wright led off the fourth with singles and Berlyn walked to load the bases. Jacques followed with a sacrifice fly and Gardner singled to load the bases again before Hoffman lofted a sacrifice fly to left.
Wabash's Joe Johnson hit a two-out single through the left side in the fifth for the Little Giants' first hit before P.J. Tyson doubles. Johnson came home on a wild pitch. DePauw's final two runs came in the fifth as Newman singles, Linette walked and Wright was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jacques delivered a two-run double to right center.
The Little Giants' John Holm hit a solo homer to right in the sixth and a two-run shot in the eighth before David Seibel's sacrifice fly in the eighth scored Nathan Schrader with the game's final run.
DePauw totaled 16 hits led by Wright and Gardner with three each. Cohen, Newman and Jacques each had two, while Jacques drove in five and Linette scored four.
Holm and Tyson had two hits apiece as the Little Giants finished with seven.
Ross improved to 5-1 after two runs on just three hits in six innings. Wabash starter Keegan Leckrone dropped to 2-2 with the loss.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 3, with a 1 p.m. Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Rhodes at Walker Field.
