Box Score 2 February 21, 2010, Maryville, Tenn. — DePauw split its doubleheader at Maryville (Tenn.) as the teams also split their four-game series. Maryville took a 4-2 win in the opener today, but the Tigers claimed a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
Maryville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second as Kyle Cyprysiak led off with a homer and Jamey Davis walked and later scored on Aaron Johnson's single to left.
Taylor Hoffman singled with two outs in the third and advanced to second on an error. He then scored when Jon Newman reached on an infield throwing error. The Tigers tied the game in the fourth when Drew Holy led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Jason Cohen's single.
The Scots won the game in the sixth with a pair of runs as Johnson singled in Joseph Saverino with the bases loaded and Zac Hargett drew a bases loaded walk which scored Zach Prentice.
DePauw totaled seven hits in the loss with Hoffman totaling a pair. Maryville also finished with seven hits as Myles Cordell and Cyprysiak had two each.
Mike Peterson suffered the loss for DePauw, while Robert Brown improved to 1-0 with the win.
In the nightcap, Maryville took a 1-0 lead in the second as Davis walked and scored on Blaine Reese's two-out double.
The Tigers got all they would need in the fifth when Aaron Henry led off with a single and scored on Taylor Hoffman's one-out homer.
Seven different DePauw players had one hit each while three Scots had one each.
Rob McPike. making his first collegiate pitching appearance, allowed just two hits in 5 1/3 innings while striking out eight and picking up the win. Andy Manson pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the save. Logan Brady dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
The Tigers were scheduled to play at Anderson on Saturday, but those games have been postponed. DePauw's next action is on Sunday, February 28, when it plays Transylvania in a Noon doubleheader at St. Xavier High School in Louisville, Ky.
