February 20, 2010, Maryville, Tenn. —  DePauw opened the 2010 baseball season with a doubleheader split at Maryville (Tenn.) College. The Scots won the opener by a 7-6 score, while the Tigers took a 5-3 win in the nightcap. The win in game two was the first collegiate victory for DePauw head coach Jake Martin.

Maryville's Myles Cordell hit a one-out walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Scots to the opening game victory. Maryville jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first before the Tigers scored three unearned runs in the third.

DePauw knotted the score in the fourth on Jon Newman's RBI double which plated Ben Gardner and then took a 5-4 lead in the fifth when Sam Linette doubled and scored on Jason Cohen's single.

The Scots regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Jamey Davis led off with a homer and Nate Baker scored from second on a DePauw throwing error. Linette reached in the seventh after being hit by a pitch and later scored the tying run on Alex Jacques' bases-loaded sacrifice fly.

Alex Wright led DePauw with three hits as the Tigers totaled seven. Maryville also finished with seven hits led by Cordell's two. Elliott Ross suffered the loss in relief of Brad Gerlach, while Jeremy Thedford improved to 1-1 with the win.

In the nightcap, DePauw scored single runs in each of the first three innings and two in the fourth. Gardner led off the game with a double and scored on Taylor Hoffman's single. Linette led off the second with a single and came home on Sam Swafford's fielder's choice.

Maryville cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second as Davis led off with a double and scored on Mikee Moore's single. The Tigers countered in the third when Hoffman led off with a double, moved to third on Newman's single and scored when Rob McPike reached base on an error.

The Scots tied the game in the third on Aaron Johnson's base hit. Junior Valentine crossed the plate on Cordell's sacrifice fly. In the fourth, DePauw put the leadoff hitter on base for the fourth straight frame when Wright walked. Jacques tripled him home and scored himself on a wild pitch.

DePauw totaled 10 hits in the win led by Hoffman and Jacques with three each. Maryville totaled eight hots as Carson Dempsey and Z. Hargett had two apiece. Hobs Donovan picked up the win after striking out six in five innings, while Andrew Newberry collected the save with two innings of scoreless relief. Johnny Lingo dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

The two teams square off in a Noon doubleheader on Sunday.
