gardner_ben_2008DPUBaseball.jpg March 25, 2009, Winter Haven, Fla. —  DePauw wrapped up the Florida portion of its Spring Break trip with a 20-9 win over 22nd-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Tigers improved to 11-8 with the win, while the Titans dropped to 1-3.

The Tigers pounded out 21 hits paced by a school-record six off the bat of Ben Gardner (pictured) in putting together their best offensive output of the season.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh jumped out to a 1-0 after Brad Demmin doubled home Nolan Fadness in the top of the first, but DePauw responded with four in the bottom half of the frame as Jack Gavin drove in three with a homer.

The Titans gained a 7-6 lead in the fourth, but DePauw scored one in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth and four each in the seventh and eighth.

Gardner went 6-for-6 with six singles and drove in four. His hit total broke the previous modern day mark of five most recently accomplished in 2005 by Chris Newman.

Jon Newman finished with three hits, while Justin Weiner, Mike Stout, Rob McPike, Gavin and Sam Linette each had two. Gavin drove in five and Newman scored four. Weiner's seven at-bats is also a modern day school record.

Oshkosh totaled 16 hits as Blake Berger and Demmin each finished with three. Nolan Fadness, Brock Wetenkamp, Derek Hiroskey and Justin Jirschele each had two hits.

Mitch Hannum picked up the win in relief and improved to 1-0, while Ryan Kuepper dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

The Tigers travel to Sewanee for a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series beginning on Friday.
