Box Score 2 March 9, 2008, Jackson, Miss. - DePauw improved to 6-2 after sweeping a doubleheader against Blackburn in games played at Millsaps College. The Tigers defeated the Beavers by an 8-1 score in the first game and won the nightcap, 10-7.
Jeremy Alland allowed just three hits and struck out eight in the opener in improving to 1-1 on the season.
The Tigers scored all eight of their runs in the second inning with Eric Reese and Matt Kleine each delivering two-run doubles. Blackburn's lone run came in the top of the seventh. Kleine, Reese and Adam Ford each collected two hits in the win. Mark Hillen had two of the Beavers' three hits.
In the nightcap Blackburn took a 4-0 lead in the third, but the Tigers scored one in the third, five in the fourth and four in the sixth to take the lead for good.
Justin Weiner, Matt Stout and Kyle Thompson each collected two of DePauw's nine hits, while Weiner drove in three with a fourth-inning triple and Kleine knocked in a pair. Stout hit a leadoff homer in the fourth.
Blackburn totaled 11 hits as Matt Spala had three and Hillen and Mike Snidle each had two.. Derek Beninati drove in four in the loss.
John Tschantz improved to 2-1 after striking out seven and walking just one, while Matt Ozee suffered the loss.
DePauw travels to Conway, Ark., on Monday for single games against Hendrix and Central Baptist. Tuesday's home game with Wabash has been postponed.
