DePauw Pulls out Another Ninth-Inning Win

March 27, 2008, Atlanta, Ga. - The 27th-ranked Tigers scored three runs in the top of the ninth and improved to 17-4 with a 13-10 non-conference win at Oglethorpe. The Stormy Petrels dropped to 7-19.

DePauw took a 5-0 lead with one in the first, two in the second and two more in the fourth, before Oglethorpe tied the contest with five in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers regained the lead in the ffith on Jon Newman's double which scored Adam Ford.

Oglethorpe made it 9-6 with a four-run sixth before DePauw tied the game in the seventh with RBI singles from Sam Linette, Newman and Jeremy Dickinson. Matt Kleine's run-scoring single in the eighth plated Justin Weiner, who doubled and stole third, to give the Tigers a 10-9 lead.

The Stormy Petrels tied the contest again with one in the eighth on Brendan Pilger's leadoff homer. In the ninth, Linette led off with a walk and moved to second on Newman's single.

Dickinson moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt. Eric Reese drew a walk to load the bases before Weiner followed with a base hit which scored Linette. Newman and Reese scored on the play after an errant throw. Paul Rodenhouse allowed just one hit in the ninth in recording his fifth save.

Weiner, Linette and Newman each collected three hits, while Ben Gardner, Kleine and Ford each added two. Gardner, Kleine and Newman each drove in two and Newman scored four. DePauw stole seven bases in the game with Weiner and Newman each pilfering three.

Cliff Cross had three of the Stormy Petrels' 13 hits, while Pilger, Chris Lucas, Ben Giddens, J.J. Rizzo and Brandon McMichael each added two.

Tim Baldwin improved to 1-0 with the relief win, while Sam Briend dropped to 4-1 with the loss.

DePauw travels to Centre tomorrow for a 7 p.m. game.
