Tigers sweep twinbill and series

April 7, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw swept its second straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against visiting Centre and swept the four game series. The Tigers improved to 19-11 overall and 9-3 in the SCAC with an 8-2 win in the first game and a 6-4 victory in the nightcap.

DePauw's Adam Ford went 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI in the opener, while Jeremy Dickinson added three hits. Drew Holy and Justin Weiner each collected two as the Tigers totaled 14. Brandon Rosen had three of Centre's seven hits.

Centre jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on Jake Jones' RBI single, but DePauw countered with four in the bottom of the first on Ford's two-run double and run-scoring singles from Weiner and Sam Linette. The Colonels closed the gap to 4-2 in the second when Kai Leathers' sacrifice fly scored Rosen. DePauw made it 5-2 in the bottom of the second on Ford's RBI double. In the fourth, Dickinson scored from second on an infield error before Ford and Weiner added RBI singles.

Derek Bryant earned the complete game win and improved to 2-1 with just one earned run with four strikeouts and no walks. Andy Placido dropped to 1-2 with the loss.

In the nightcap, Eric Reese's two-run double in the sixth broke a 4-4 tie and lifted the Tigers to the win. DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the second when Jon Newman's sacrifice fly scored Weiner. Centre took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Leathers, a run-scoring fielder's choice by Ben Jeffers and Eric Moore's RBI single.

The Tigers regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth on Matt Fritz's RBI single and Matt Kleine's two-run single. Centre knotted the score at 4-4 on Derrick Shepherd's sixth-inning single.

Centre loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth, but DePauw releiver Paul Rodenhouse struck out the next two batters and then got the final out on a fielder's choice.

Weiner went 3-for-3 with three runs and three stolen bases, while Reese added two hits as the Tigers totaled 10 in the win. Leathers paced Centre with three of their 12 hits, while Shepherd and Andy Placido each had two.

Matt Westenkrichner improved to 3-0 with the win, while Rodenhouse notched his sixth save of the season by pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth innings. The save was the seventh of his career which tied the DePauw record also held by Jeff Hartzell and Cole Dunnick.

DePauw returns to action on Tuesday, April 10, when it hosts Washington-St. Louis in a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader.
