Box Score March 29, 2007, Port Charlotte, Fla. - DePauw broke open a 2-2 contest with nine runs in the bottom of the eighth on the way to an 11-3 win over Union (N.Y.) at the Port Charlotte Invitational. The Tigers improved to 12-10, while the Dutchmen dropped to 1-8.
DePauw jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Jake Tri's sacrifice fly that scored Adam Ford. Union tied the gam in the seventh when Pat Wilson scored on a throwing error on an attempted steal. In the bottom of the seventh, Brendan Smith's pinch-hit double plated Ford before the Dutchmen knotted the score in the eighth when Ryan Bowes scored on a double steal.
In the bottom of the eighth, Mike Stout put DePauw ahead with a bases loaded single that scored Justin Weiner. Jeremy Dickinson then scored when Ford reached base on an error. Jon Newman and Sam Linette each drew bases loaded walks to make it 6-2. Weiner's infield single scored Ford before Dickinson doubled in a pair and Matt Kleine followed with a two-run double. Union's Scott Carroll delivered a solo homer in the ninth for the final run.
DePauw totaled nine hits with Kleine leading the way with three. Paul Mene, Carroll and Bowes each had two of Union's nine hits. Ford improved to 2-1 as he pitched the eighth and was one of nine DePauw pitchers. Davis Arouca dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
The Tigers return to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a doubleheader at Sewanee.
