May 2, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw scored one in the ninth and defeated Hanover, 4-3, in the Tigers' season finale. The Tigers finished at 20-23, while Hanover dropped to 18-17.

Matt Kleine led off the ninth with a double and moved to third on Chris Newman's bunt single. Zach Harris was then intentionally walked and Kleine scored the game-winner when Greg DeBeer's grounder against a drawn-in infield wasn't fielded cleanly.

Hanover scored all of its runs in the first as Thomas Hopkins led off with a bunt single and moved to second on Kyle Barnett's single to left. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Todd Miller drove them in with a double to right. Miller advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a Tigers' error.

DePauw came back with two in the second as Matt Drew singled with one out and moved to third on Gary Ehlebracht's double to left center. Eric Reese delivered a two-out single to make it 3-2.

In the third, DeBeer homered down the left field line to tie the score at 3-3.

DePauw totaled 11 hits led by Newman with three and Kleine and Reese with two each. Miller led Hanover with three of their 10 hits, while Hopkins and Dan Gillin each added a pair.

P.J. Mitchell improved to 7-6 by pitching six scoreless innings of relief and struck out eight. On his last collegiate pitch, Mitchell recorded his 80th strikeout on the season which broke the DePauw single-season mark of 79 set by Tigers' head coach Matt Walker in 1999.

Kyle Pinkham dropped to 0-3 with the relief loss.
