Box Score 2 April 9, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw earned a split of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Rose-Hulman by winning the nightcap, 5-4. The Engineers won the opener by an 11-3 count. DePauw is 13-16 overall and 5-7 in the SCAC, while Rose-Hulman is 14-11 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
Rose-Hulman took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the first game, but the Tigers countered with two in the bottom of the inning. The Engineers took a 3-2 lead in the third and DePauw again knotted the score with one in the bottom of the innings. The Engineers, however, scored two in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh for the win.
Matt Kleine had two of DePauw's six hits, while Kellen Hurst, Matt Pepelea and Steven Sawusch each collected three of the Engineers' 18 hits. Keith Felton, Matt Salisbury and Jeremy Hochstedler each had two hits in the win. Josh Nash had the game's only homer and Pepelea drove in three.
Luis Bogart improved to 5-1 by allowing just six hits over six innings, while Bill Metzinger dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
In the nightcap, the Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first before the Engineers tied it in the second. DePauw took the lead for good with three in the third. Rose-Hulman closed the gap to 4-3 with a pair in the fourth before the Tigers added a single run in the fourth. The Engineers scored one in the eighth to round out the scoring.
Chris Newman had three of DePauw's nine hits, while Matt Deahl and Jeremy Dickinson each added two. Deahl finished with two RBI. Felton and Tim Braun each collected two of the Engineers' seven hits with Braun driving in two on leadoff solo homers in the second and fourth.
Jeremy Alland improved to 2-1 after striking out five and allowing three unearned runs in 7 1/3 innings. P.J. Mitchell picked up his second save by striking out four in 1 2/3 innings including all three in the ninth. Brad Otto dropped to 4-2 with the loss.
The Tigers face Anderson on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. game at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
