April 22, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw moved a step closer to qualifying for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament after it swept a doubleheader with visiting Sewanee by scores of 4-2 and 8-5. The Tigers improved to 16-20 overall and 7-7 in the SCAC, while Sewanee dropped to 15-22 overall and 6-8 in the conference.

In the opener, Greg DeBeer hit a three-run homer in the first and Adrian Norris added a solo shot in the fifth to provide all of the offense. P.J. Mitchell pitched a three-hit shutout in improving to 6-5.

Matt Kleine led off the first with a single and moved to second on Chris Newman's sacrifice. Matt Deahl drew a walk before DeBeer drove a 2-0 pitch over the fence in right.

Sewanee cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth when Casey Cook led off with a walk and J.R. Candlish followed with a single. Daniel Hinkle's sacrifice moved the runners up a base and Chris Petrucka followed with a two-run double to left center. Norris wrapped up the scoring with his leadoff homer in the bottom of the fifth.

Sewanee added one in the sixth when Sean Hilley advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a DePauw throwing error. The Tigers countered in the bottom of the sixth when Kleine led off by slapping a bunt past the third baseman for a double, stealing third and scoring on Deahl's ground out. In the eighth, Hinkle drove in Cook with a single and Morris singled home John Davis to make it 8-5.

John Kihlken improved to 5-4 after going the first 7 2/3 innings and Bill Metzinger picked up his second save after pitching a scoreless ninth.
