Box Score 2 April 15, 2006, St. Louis, Mo. - DePauw dropped both ends of their doubleheader at Washington University and dropped to 14-19 on the season. The Bears improved to 29-5 with the sweep.
In the opener, Washington took a 1-0 lead in the second before adding two in the sixth on RBI doubles by Eddy Hoering and Zander Lehmann. DePauw picked up its only run in the seventh on Adrian Norris' leadoff homer to left.
The Tigers totaled six hits led by Norris with three and Kyle Dobbs with a pair. Andy Shields had three of the Bears' 10 hits. P.J. Mitchell dropped to 5-5 on the season while Brent Buffa improved to 8-0. Mitchell recorded seven strikeouts to raise his career total to 223 which broke the DePauw record of 221 by Tyson Becker (2001-04).
In the nightcap, the Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before the Tigers plated three in the third on Matt Deahl's RBI grounder, Norris' run-scoring single and Dobbs' RBI double.
Washington knotted the score with one in the third and took the lead with three in the fourth and four in the sixth. DePauw scored two in the seventh on Norris' RBI single and Dobbs' sacrifice fly.
DePauw finished with nine hits led by Norris with two. The Bears totaled 13 with Alan Germano leading the way with three followed by Jim Haley, Ryan Corning, Shields and David Kramer. Corning drove in four including three on a fourth-inning homer.
Shields improved to 6-3 with the win, while John Kihlken dropped to 4-4 with the loss.
DePauw travels to Franklin on Tuesday before hosting Sewanee in SCAC doubleheaders next Saturday and Sunday.
