Box Score 2 April 1, 2006, Atlanta, Ga. - DePauw won the first game of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Oglethorpe by a 19-5 score, but lost the nightcap, 2-0. DePauw is 10-13 overall and 3-4 in the SCAC, while Oglethorpe is 7-20 overall and 3-4 in the conference. The teams close out their four-game series with a single game on Sunday.
In the first game, the Tigers totaled season highs of 19 runs and 20 hits in snapping their four-game losing streak. The Tigers scored five in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth to jump out to an 8-0 lead.
The Stormy Petrels added two in the bottom of the fourth, but DePauw countered with four in the fifth to make it 12-2. Oglethorpe scored a single run in the fifth before the Tigers scored seven in the sixth. The Stormy Petrels wrapped up the scoring with two in the seventh.
Jeremy Dickinson, Chris Newman, Matt Kleine and Matt Deahl each collected three hits in the win with Matt Drew and Gary Ehlebracht each adding a pair. Kleine and Ehlebract each drove in four with Kleine hitting a two-run homer in the fourth for his second round-tripper in consecutive games. Tim Ernst and Evan Baker each finished with two of Oglethorpe's eight hits.
John Kihlken improved to 4-2 after allowing just six hits in six innings while striking out eight. Jimmy Hess dropped to 1-5 with the loss.
In the nightcap, the Tigers totaled just three singles as the Stormy Petrels scored one run each in the fifth and sixth innings.
Bill Metzinger suffered the loss despite allowing just five hits and dropped to 1-2, while Sean Tuttle improved to 3-2.
