Box Score 2 March 5, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw baseball team split its two games today at Walker Field as it defeated North Park by a 17-8 score and fell to Mount St. Joseph, 5-3.
The Tigers banged out 15 hits in the opening game with Matt Deahl collecting three and Matt Kleine, Greg DeBeer, Zach Harris and Matt Drew each totaling two. Deahl drove in three for the Tigers who jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first.
North Park closed the gap to 9-7 with four runs in the top of the seventh , but DePauw scored two in the seventh and six in the eighth to put the game out of reach. Bill Metzinger improved to 1-0 after six innings of work, while the Vikings' Brad DeJong suffered the loss. Kyle Dobbs had the game's lone home run with a solo blast to left in the fifth.
In the Mount St. Joseph game, the visiting Lions scored single runs in the first and sixth innings and added three in the seventh for a 5-0 lead. The Tigers scored three in the bottom of the seventh, but Mount St. Joseph held on for the win.
Neil Gamble and Nick Kastetos each had two of the Lions' eight hits, while Chris Newman, Drew and Dobbs each had two of DePauw's nine hits.
Scott Bonner picked up the win by allowing just three hits over six innings and Mike Elsasser picked up the save with a scoreless ninth. John Kihlken suffered the loss for DePauw , but gave up just one earned run over six innings.
The Tigers return to action on March 11 when they travel to Hanover for a noon doubleheader.
