March 18, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw came from behind to defeat Concordia (Ill.), 4-3, in the first game of their doubleheader and the Cougars did the same in a 5-3 victory in the nightcap. DePauw is 7-5 on the season, while Concordia is 6-5.

Concordia jumped out to a 1-0 lead in fourth inning of the opener on Dan Linsner's single that scored Jack Walker, but DePauw countered with two in the bottom half of the inning when Kyle Dobbs doubled down the right field line and the relay throw was mishandled allowing Matt Deahl to score on the play. Adrian Norris followed with a single down the left field line scoring Dobbs.

The Cougars regained the lead in the fifth as Greg Grabowski singled and advanced to second on a DePauw throwing error that allowed Joe Giorango to score from second. Will Schinagl followed with a double down the left field line that scored Grabowski.

Deahl led off the sixth with a single and moved to second on Dobbs' single through the left side. Norris advanced the runners with a bunt and pinch-hitter Matt Drew drove them in with a single left center.

P.J. Mitchell improved to 3-2 and Bill Metzinger picked up the save with a scoredless seventh. In the win, Mitchell broke the DePauw career record for innings pitched previously held by Tyson Becker (2001-04). Ryan Hantel dropped to 0-1.

Dobbs led the Tigers with two of their eight hits, while Walker collected three of Concordia's 12 and Grabowski, Schinagl and Linsner each added two.

Concordia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on fielder's choice grounders from Walker and Carl Petersen. The Tigers took a 3-2 lead in the third on Chris Newman's RBI single, Greg DeBeer's run-scoring ground out and Deahl's infield hit.

The Cougars led off the seventh with a pair of walks. Zach Bickel drove in the first run with a single to left before Grabowski gave Concordia the lead on a single through the left side. Walker's sacrifice fly made it 5-3.

Paul Rodenhouse suffered the loss in relief and dropped to 0-1, while Malik Alandari improved to 2-1 by not allowing an earned run in seven innings.

Grabowski and Dan Eckler each collected two of the Cougars' eight hits, while Walker drove in a pair. Five different Tigers each had one hit.

DePauw hosts Adrian in a 1 p.m. single game on Sunday.
