Box Score March 15, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Three Tiger pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over Wabash at Walker Field. DePauw improved to 6-4, while Wabash dropped to 6-5.
DePauw scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the fourth when Matt Deahl led off by being hit by a pitch. Greg DeBeer reached on an infield single and moved to second on a Wabash throwing error that allowed Deahl to advance to third.
Zach Harris reached on a hit after his drive down the third base line hit Deahl in fair territory for the first out. Matt Drew was hit by a pitch, loading the bases and Kyle Dobbs then reached on a fielder's choice that plated DeBeer.
The Little Giants' best scoring opportunity came in the top of the fourth when Mike Nowak singled with one out and moved to third on Billy King's double to right. Jared Bogan then hit a grounder to third that Deahl fielded a threw to catcher Adrian Norris for the putout at the plate.
Wabash put runners on first and third with two outs in the ninth, but P.J. Mitchell struck out Jake Thomas to end the game.
DePauw starter John Kihlken improved to 2-1 while allowing just four hits in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked just one. Bill Metzinger retired both batters he faced in the eighth and Mitchell picked up the save with a scoreless ninth. John Thiry dropped to 1-2 after going five innings as the Wabash starter.
DePauw hosts Concordia (Ill.) on Saturday in a noon doubleheader.
