April 22, 2005, Conway, Ark. - The Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the fifth and held on for a 10-8 victory over Rose-Hulman in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. With the win the Tigers improved to 27-12 and play Southwestern at 10 a.m. on Saturday in an elimination game. That contest can be heard on WGRE. Rose-Hulman bowed out of the tournament with an 18-13 record.

John Younger led off the game with a double before Chris Newman walked. Ryan Sipe singled through the right side scoring Younger and breaking the DePauw career RBI record with his 110th. Greg DeBeer's groundout scored Newman and gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Matt Deahl led off the fourth by being hit by a pitch and advanced to second on Zach Harris' infield single. Adrian Norris' sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third before Deahl scored on a wild pitch and Harris came home on Kyle Dobbs' single.

Sipe drove a one-out double to center in the fifth before DeBeer walked. Each moved up on Deahl's groundout and Harris was intentionally walked. Norris drilled the second pitch he saw over the fence in left field to make it 8-0. Dobbs led off the sixth with a homer to make it 9-0.

The Engineers began their comeback in the sixth when Jeremy Hochstedler doubled and scored on Matt Pepelea's double. Shawn Smith tropled and Scott Tourville doubled to cut the DePauw lead to 9-3.

In the seventh, Jimmy Goebel reached on a DePauw error and scored on Hochstedler's double. Pepelea singled to score Hochstedler and make it 9-5. Tourville's leadoff homer in the eighth cut the margin to 9-6.

The Tigers added one in the ninth Deahl singled to score Sipe who led off the inning with a double. In the bottom of the ninth, Pepelea ripped a one-out double and moved to third on an error on the play. Smith then homered to left to make it 10-8. Rose-Hulman put two runners on base and the winning-run at the plate, but DePauw reliever John Tschantz struck out Matt Salisbury and got Keith Felton to hit into a fielder's choice.

Mark Alson started for DePauw and improved to 7-2, while Josh Hogan dropped to 2-3. Tschantz recorded his fourth saves.

The Tigers totaled 11 hits with Sipe picking up four. Harris and Dobbs each had a pair. The Engineers totaled 12 hits led by three each from Pepelea and Smith and two by Tourville and Hochstedler.
