Tigers improve to 24-11 with win over Mount St. Joseph

April 13, 2005, Cincinnati, Ohio - DePauw collected 15 hits on the way to a 6-4 victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph. DePauw improved to 24-11 with the win, while the Lions dropped to 17-8.

Five Tigers collected two hits apiece including Chris Newman, Greg DeBeer, Matt Deahl, Jon Gratz and Kyle Dobbs. Marc Terwilliger and Tyler Pille each had two of Mount St. Joseph's seven hits.

The hosts reached the board first with one in the fourth on Pille's bases loaded single that scored Michael Mayer. The Tigers came right back with three in the fifth. Matt Kleine reached on a bunt single and Dobbs reached on an error. Dobbs stole second and John Younger walked before Newman singled home Kleine and Dobbs. Ryan Sipe added a single that scored Younger and gave DePauw a 3-1 lead.

They extended it to 4-1 in the sixth as Zach Harris led of with a single, moved to second on Adrian Norris' bunt and scored on Dobbs' triple. That three-bagger extended his career school record to 12 and tied the single-season mark at six.

The Tigers scored their final two runs in the seventh as Newman led off with a single, stole second and scored on DeBeer's base hit. Deahl followed with a single before Norris walked. Gratz singled home DeBeer to make it 6-1.

Pille led off the Mount St. Joseph seventh with a double and scored on Joel Steinmetz's groundout. Ryan Meyer and Neil Gamble walked and both scored on Terwilliger's double.

John Kihlken improved to 3-0 with the win after allowing just one unearned run in four innings. John Tschantz picked up his second save of the season by pitching 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts. John Strittholt dropped to 2-1 with the loss.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 16, when they host 27-4 Washington (Mo.) University.
