Tigers complete season sweep of Wabash with 11-1 win

March 16, 2005, Crawfordsville, Ind. - The Tigers scored a season-high 11 runs and pounded out a season-best 16 hits and completed the season sweep of Wabash with an 11-1 victory over the Little Giants. DePauw improved to 8-5 on the season, while Wabash dropped to 8-5 with the loss.

Wabash took a 1-0 lead in the second on Shaun Rico's fielder's choice that scored Jared Bogan. The Tigers knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of the sixth as Greg DeBeer reached on an infield error, moved to second on Matt Deahl's sacrifice bunt and scored on Kevin McAteer's single.

The Tigers blew the game open in the late innings with 10 runs and 11 hits over the final three frames. In the seventh, John Younger singled and moved to second Chris Newman's sacrifice. After Ryan Sipe was intentionally walked, DeBeeer reached on an error that scored Younger and gave DePauw the lead. Deahl and McAteer each drove in one with singles and Zach Harris later brought home a pair with a double.

In the eighth, Deahl singled home Sipe and Newman to make it 8-1. The Tigers put three on the board in the ninth on Newman's run-scoring single, an outfield error and Deahl's single.

Paul Rodenhouse picked up his first collegiate win by pitching four innings of relief and allowing just four hits. Wabash starter John Thiry (1-1) suffered the loss and allowed six unearned runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Deahl led the Tigers with three hits and four RBI, while Younger, Newman, Sipe, Harris and McAteer each had two hits. Bogan paced Wabash with three hits with Phil Ramos adding two.

The win was DePauw's 13th straight over the Little Giants in coach Matt Walker's six years as head coach.
