Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

February 26, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw baseball team opened the 2005 home season with a doubleheader split against Anderson. The Tigers lost the first game by a 2-1 score in nine innings, but took the nightcap, 5-2.

DePauw senior second baseman Ryan Sipe collected two base hits on the afternoon to move his career total to 175 and break the school record of 174 held by Jarrett Hunt (1999-02) and Steve Spasojevich (1998-01).

The Tigers and Ravens battled through a scoreless first three innings in the opening game before Anderson plated one in the fourth. Peter Whiting and Aaron Woolsey singled and Whiting scored on Ryan Weiss' base hit. DePauw knotted the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth as Greg DeBeer led off with a single and later scored on Matt Deahl's single.

Anderson's game-winning run in extra innings came in the ninth when Evan McClain singled and was sacrificed to second. Andrew Butts then singled McClain to third and McClain came home on a failed pickoff attempt.

Whiting finished with three hits for the Ravens with McClain adding a pair. Kyle Dobbs collected two hits in the loss. Brandon Labus picked up the win with Bill Metzinger suffering the loss in relief.

DePauw opened the nightcap with four unearned runs before adding one in the fourth when Kyle Dobbs led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Anderson's two runs came in the top of the third.

Deahl paced the Tigers with two base hits, while Mike Miller had a pair for Anderson. Metzinger picked up the win with five innings of work in which he allowed just five hits. Kevin Nichols suffered the loss.

The Tigers travel to Transylvania for a single game on Sunday at noon.
