Greencastle, Ind. - Visiting Rose-Hulman pounded out 13 hits on the way to a 7-4 victory in the first of a four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series. The loss snapped the Tigers' 10-game win streak and dropped their overall record to 21-10 and their SCAC Eastern Division mark to 12-1. The 23rd-ranked Engineers improved to 23-3 overall and 9-0 in the conference.

Rose-Hulman jumped out in front with two in the second as Brad Jones singled to right with one out and Matt Pepelea advanced him to third with a single. After DePauw starter P.J. Mitchell picked off Pepelea at first, Jimmy Goebel singled to right and moved to second on a Tigers error. Adam Windmiller singled to left to score Goebel.

The Tigers knotted the game at 2-2 in the bottom half of the second as Kevin Ehinger led off with a single and Zach Harris followed with a triple. Greg DeBeer's single scored Harris. DePauw had runners on second and third with one out when Kyle Dobbs lifted a fly ball that left fielder Matt Moore caught just across the foul line. Moore then fired a strike to the plate to nail DeBeer at the plate.

Matt Salisbury singled with one out in the third and moved to second on Scott Tourville's single. Moore reached on a Tigers error that scored Salisbury. The Engineers added two more in the fifth when Cort Severns led off with a double and moved to third on Salisbury's sacrifice bunt. Tourville and Moore followed with back-to-back doubles to push the Rose-Hulman lead to 5-2.

Severns added an RBI double in the sixth and Windmiller scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2. The Tigers came back with one each in the eighth and ninth innings. Matt Deahl doubled down the left field line in the eighth and moved to third when Ryan Sipe reached on an error. Ehinger then drove in his 48th run of the season with a sacrifice fly to center.

DeBeer was hit by a pitch to lead off the DePauw ninth and moved to third on Chris Newman's double. Dobbs' groundout plated DeBeer with the game's final run.

Severns, Tourville, Jones, Goebel and Windmiller each collected two hits for the Engineers as eight of their nine starters had at least one hit. John Younger was the lone DePauw player with two hits.

Nathan Soyer improved to 5-1 with the victory, while Mitchell dropped to 7-2 on the campaign with his first loss since February 29 which snapped a seven-game win streak.

The two teams return to action on Saturday with a pair of seven innings game. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Walker Field and both games may be heard live on WGRE.
