Tigers extend win streak to 10 with 12-2 win at Franklin

Franklin, Ind. - DePauw pounded out 18 hits on the way to a 12-2 win at Franklin to extend its win streak to 10 straight. The Tigers improved to 21-9 with their 16th win in the last 17 games. The Grizzlies dropped to 11-10.

 

The Tigers fell behind in the second as Franklin's Cody Kirkman led off the inning with a homer to left center. DePauw tied the game in the third when John Younger singled and later scored on Ryan Sipe's double down the left field line.

 

DePauw added four each in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 9-1 lead. Zach Harris led off the fourth with a walk and advanced to third on Jon Gratz's single through the right side. Mike Gonzalez doubled to score Harris before Kyle Dobbs singled to score Gratz. Younger lifted a sacrifice fly to right that scored Gonzalez and Matt Deahl brought home Dobbs by reaching on an error.

 

Kevin Ehinger led off the fifth with his seventh home run of the season and Harris reached on an infield error. Chris Newman drew a walk before Gonzalez drove in Harris with a groundout. Dobbs' single to left scored Newman. Younger then singled and Dobbs scored on a wild pitch.

 

Franklin scored its second run in the fifth on Jerremy Neibert's bases loaded fielder's choice that plated Lance LaBonte. Adrian Norris drove in Harris with a run in the sixth and Ehinger scored Younger on a seventh-inning sacrifice fly. Ehinger then drove in Sipe with a triple to push his season RBI total to 47.

 

Younger led DePauw with four hits, while Deahl, Ehinger, Gratz, Norris and Dobbs each added two. Kirkman had three of Franklin's nine hits. Bill Metzinger improved to 1-0 on the season with his first collegiate win, while David Federoff dropped to 0-1 on the season.

 

The Tigers return to action on Friday, April 9, when they host Rose-Hulman in the first game of a four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series beginning at 2:30 p.m. DePauw enters the series with a 12-0 SCAC record, while the 23rd-ranked Engineers are 8-0 in the SCAC.
