Atlanta, Ga. - DePauw totaled 13 hits, but a few key missed opportunities sent the Tigers to a 5-3 loss against Trinity in each team's opening game in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. DePauw faces Oglethorpe at 11 a.m. EDT (10 a.m. in Greencastle) on Friday in an elimination game. LISTEN LIVE. Oglethorpe lost to Millsaps by a 6-5 score in 12 innings in Thursday's first game.

DePauw dropped to 27-13 on the season, while Trinity improved to 32-7 and advanced to play Rose-Hulman which defeated Southwestern, 5-1, in the day's final game.

Trinity reached the board first, when, with two outs Russell Madison singled to center and moved to second on Chase Tettleton's base hit. Jason Armstrong walked before Huston O'Connor drew a bases loaded walk to score Madison. Mike Perez led off the Trinity fourth with a double, moved to second on a DePauw error and scored on Andreas Verrios' suicide squeeze.

DePauw put runners on first and second with one out in the fifth, but John Younger lined out to second and Chris Newman was doubled off of second to end the inning. O'Connor then made it 3-0 with a two-out solo homer to right center.

Ryan Sipe singled through the left side with one out in the sixth and scored when Kevin Ehinger doubled to center. Ehinger advanced to third on a throwing error on the play. Zach Harris drove in Ehinger with a single to cut the Trinity lead to 3-2.

The Tigers again put two runners on in the seventh with one out before Trinity reliever Adam Frey retired retired the next two batters to end the threat. Tettleton led off the Trinity seventh with a walk and moved to third when Armstrong singled and moved to second on a DePauw error. O'Connor's single to center plated Tettle to extend the Trinity lead to 4-2.

In the eighth, Ehinger led off with a single and moved to third when the ball got past the Trinity right fielder. Ehinger was thrown out at the plate when Frey's pitch got past Trinity catcher Matthew Hoss. Greg DeBeer then singled with two outs and Mark Peterson came in to pinch run. Newman doubled off the fence in right allowing Peterson to score and close the gap to 4-3.

Trinity added a run in the eighth when Verrios led off with a double and pinch-hitter Christopher Peters followed with a single. Matthew Jordan came in to run for Peters and stole second. The throw to second was high and allowed Verrios to score.

Younger finished with three hits, while Ehinger, Harris, DeBeer and Newman each added a pair. Ehinger extended his hitting streak to 14 straight. O'Connor and Verrios each had two of Trinity's 10 hits. With his single in the seventh, Armstrong extended his hit streak to 34 straight.

Tyson Becker, who entered the game with a 2-0 record against Trinity in the SCAC tournament, suffered the loss and dropped to 4-4. Becker establised two DePauw career records in the game as he broke the school record of 207 strikeouts set by Daniel Mack (1999-02) and the innings pitched mark of 247 held by Jeff Summers (1995-98). Becker struck out a season-high eight in eight innings of work.

Mike Frost improved to 10-1 with the win as he struck out six in 6 1/3 innings. Frey picked up his second save.
