St. Louis, Mo. - DePauw tied the single-season school record for wins as it improved to 27-12 with a doubleheader sweep at Washington (Mo.). The Bears dropped to 14-16 on the year. DePauw now prepares for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship at Oglethorpe. The Tigers, the number-two seed in the SCAC Eastern Division, face Trinity at 3 p.m. EDT on Thursday, April 22.

The Tigers trailed 12-6 in the opener but scored four in the sixth and three in the seventh for the 13-12 win. DePauw trailed 9-4 in the nightcap before rallying for one in the fourth, five in the fifth and one in the seventh for an 11-9 victory.

DePauw opened the twinbill with three runs in the first innning as Chris Newman led off with a single and Ryan Sipe doubled. Kevin Ehinger's single scored Newman and Zach Harris' base hit brought home Sipe and Ehinger.

The host Bears scored six times in the second as Andy Shields led off with a walk and stole second. Joel Farrell and Michael LoBosco walked to load the bases before Brent Marlis doubled in a pair of runs. Ryan Corning hit a three-run homer to left center and Ryan Argo hit a solo shot to left center.

Sipe led off the third with a single and Ehinger tripled before Greg DeBeer lifted a sacrifice fly to center to cut the Bears' lead to 6-5. Marlis extended the Washington advantage to 7-5 in the third with a single that scored Anthony Bianco. Matt Deahl's solo homer in the DePauw fourth made it 7-6.

The Bears, however, put together a five-run fifth to take a 12-6 lead. Steve Schmidt and Argo each had bases loaded singles before back-to-back DePauw errors plated three runs.

DePauw began its comeback in the sixth as Newman reached on a bunt single, Deahl walked and Ehinger singled to load the bases to set up Harris' grand slam homer to left center. In the seventh Deahl drew a walk and Sipe was hit by a pitch before Harris drove in Deahl with a two-out single. Kevin McAteer entered the game as a pinch-hitter and delivered a two-run double.

Reliever Brian Scott retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to improve his record to 2-0. Schmidt suffered the defeat in relief to fall to 3-6. Ehinger and Harris each finished with three of the Tigers' 19 hits with Newman, Sipe, Hunter Slade, Mike Gonzalez and Kyle Dobbs each adding two. Argo and Bianco each had three of Washington's 11 hits.

In the nightcap, the Tigers again jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead as Ryan Sipe blasted a three-run homer. The Bears picked up one in the first as Farrell drew a bases loaded walk. DePauw made it 4-1 in the second with an unearned run, but Washington again had a six-run inning in the second. Corning hit a two-run double and Schmidt followed with a run-scoring two-bagger. Shields singled in Schmidt before Argo scored after a DePauw throwing error. Arden Farhi drove in the inning's final run with a fielder's choice.

Bianco's third-inning, bases loaded walk and LoBosco's RBI single extended the Bears lead to 9-4. The Tigers chipped away at the deficit as Sipe hit his second homer, a solo shot to left in the fourth. In the fifth, Adrian Norris singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Dobbs singled to advance Norris to third and then stole second. Dehal walked with two outs before Sipe drove in Norris after being hit by a pitch. Ehinger followed with his second grand slam in as many days to put DePauw in the lead, 10-9. The Tigers added one more in the seventh as Dobbs led off with a triple and scored on Deahl's groundout.

John Kihlken improved to 2-0 after pitching 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Adam Cowley went the distance for Washington and dropped to 1-3. Sipe finished with three of the Tigers' 12 hits while Deahl, Ehinger, Norris and Dobbs each had two. Schmidt had three of the Bears' 11 hits followed by Argo with two.
