Greencastle, Ind. - A seventh-inning rally by the Tigers in game two of their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with visiting Rose-Hulman fell one run too short and gave the Engineers a sweep of the Tigers. Rose-Hulman won the first game by a 4-2 score and took the nightcap, 7-6.

DePauw dropped to 21-12 overall and 12-3 in the SCAC Eastern Division, while the 23rd-ranked Engineers improved to 25-3 overall and 11-0 in the conference. The two teams conclude their four-game series with a single game at Walker Field on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. You may hear the game online beginning at just before 1 p.m.

The Tigers entered the bottom of the seventh of the nightcap facing a 7-3 deficit after the Engineers scored four in the top half of the inning to break a 3-3 tie. John Younger led off the inning with a single and Matt Deahl reached on an error. Ryan Sipe loaded the bases with a single to right. Kevin Ehinger then drove a towering fly ball that backed Engineers' left fielder Matt Moore all the way to the fence in left and resulted in a sacrifice fly.

Zach Harris followed with a single that scored Deahl to cut the margin to 7-5. Matt Salisbury then replaced Mike Tranter on the mound and got Greg DeBeer to fly out to center which allowed Sipe to score. Chris Newman walked and Adrian Norris was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Salisbury got Kyle Dobbs to fly out to center to end the game.

DePauw jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the game on RBI singles from Ehinger and DeBeer and a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of Hunter Slade. The Engineers knotted the score in the third when Drew DeMarco cracked a two-run homer to left center and Scott Tourville doubled home Cort Severns.

Rose-Hulman's four-run seventh started with singles by DeMarco and Severns. Pinch-hitter Shawn Smith lifted a fly ball to right that Dobbs dropped allowing DeMarco to score and Severns to advance to third. Moore then hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Severns and moved Smith to third. Scott Tourville was intentionally walked before Brad Jones made it 6-3 on an infield single. Tourville later scored on Josh Nash's single to center.

Mark Alson suffered his first loss for the Tigers in four decisions after getting the call to start just minutes before the game after original starter Dave Edmonds couldn't start due to an injury. Tranter improved to 4-0 with the win and Salisbury notched his second save. Severns and DeMarco each had two hits for the Engineers, while Younger, Sipe and DeBeer each had two for DePauw.

In the first game, Dobbs hit a two-run homer to left center in the second to give the Tigers the early 2-0 lead. The Engineers scored three in the fifth as Brad Jones led off the inning with a single and scored on Jimmy Goebel's double to left. After DeMarco walked, Drew Furry reached on a bunt base hit. Goebel then scored on a wild pitch and DeMarco came home on Severns infield single.

The Engineers added one more in the seventh as Goebel led off with a walk, moved to second on Adam Windmiller's sacrifice bunt and scored on two wild pitches.

Sevens and Jones each had two hits for Rose-Hulman, while Hunter Slade finished with two for the Tigers. Tyson Becker suffered the defeat and dropped to 3-3, whole Travis Noah improved to 3-0 with the victory. Eric Clementoni earned his first save with three innings of one-hit pitching.
