Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - The Tigers pounded out a season-high 21 hits and eight pitchers limited visiting Franklin to six hits on the way to a 12-3 victory over the Grizzlies. DePauw improved to 16-9, while Franklin dropped to 9-8.
For the third straight game, DePauw equaled or established a season high for hits and for the second straight game they totaled at least 20. John Younger collected four, while Zach Harris added three. Matt Deahl, Ryan Sipe, Kevin Ehinger and Greg DeBeer each had two in the win. Ehinger drove in five with a two-run single in the first and a three-run homer in the sixth. Jerremy Neibert had two hits for the Grizzlies.
The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on Ehinger's two-run single and DeBeer's RBI single. They then added two more in the second as Kyle Dobbs singled with one out and Younger moved him to third with a single before stealing second. Deahl singled through the left side and Sipe hit into a fielder's choice to make it 5-0.
Franklin scored twice in the fourth after Neibert drove in a pair with a double to left center. The Tigers added seven more in the sixth as Hunter Slade led off with a double and Younger added an infield single. Deahl drove in Slade with a sacrifice fly and Sipe singled down the left field line to set up Ehinger's three-run blast.
Harris and Chris Newman reached on infield hits and moved up a base on a wild pitch before Jon Gratz singled to second to score Harris. Slade reached on an infield error that scored Newman and Younger drove in Mark Peterson, who ran for Gratz, with a single.
Franklin's final run came in the eighth as Nick Arnold's single to left scored David Verdeyen.
P.J. Mitchell notched his sixth win in seven decisions, while Franklin starter Jason Davis dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
The Tigers return to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they host Sewanee in a doubleheader that begins at noon at Walker Field.
