Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw took a 6-3 lead into the seventh inning but visiting Manchester scored five times in the seventh and once in the eighth to take a 9-6 victory at Walker Field.
The Tigers scored one in the first when Matt Deahl led off with a double, was moved to second on Ryan Sipe's fly out and scored on Zach Harris' grounder to short. Manchester countered with two in the second as Brian Minix led off with a double to left center and moved to third on Josh Brock's single to center. A double steal brought Minix in and after Ryan Seal single, Brandon Hughes lifted a sacrifice fly to right to put the Spartans ahead 2-1.
DePauw made it 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth as Hunter Slade doubled with two outs and scored on Greg DeBeer's single. Adrian Norris then singled and Kyle Dobbs delivered a three-run homer. Sipe led off the fifth with a single and moved to second on a balk. With two outs, John Younger singled scoring Sipe and making it 6-2.
Manchester scored an unearned run in the sixth but did its damage in the seventh.Eric Screeton drew a one-out walk and moved to second on Ryan Carr's single. Jared Kurtz doubled down the left field line to score Screeton. Kerry Frost then entered the game in relief of DePauw starter Mark Alson.
Frost got Minix to ground out for the inning's second out, but Carr scored on the play to make it 6-5. Brock walked before Nick Smiley singled to left center scoring Kurtz. Seal then knocked in Smiley and Brock with a hard smash past third. The Spartans then added one more in the eighth on two Tiger errors.
Tyler Wolfe picked up the win in relief for Manchester, while Kerry Frost dropped to 0-2 with the loss. Carr, Kurtz, Minix, Brock and Seal each had two hits in the Spartans' 13-hit attack. DeBeer led the Tigers with three hits, while Younger and Slade each had two.
DePauw returns to action on Wednesday, March 10, when it hosts Mount St. Joseph at 2:30 p.m. for a single, nine-inning game.
