Box Score Atlanta, Ga. - DePauw opened its four-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series at Oglethorpe with a 12-1 win. The Tigers improved to 12-9 overall and 5-0 in the SCAC, while the Stormy Petrels dropped to 5-20 overall and 4-1 in the SCAC.
The Tigers pounded out a season-high 18 hits in the contest and starter P.J. Mitchell scattered eight hits over the eight innings as the game was shortened due to the conference's 10-run rule.
Matt Deahl and Adrian Norris each hit solo homers in the first and second innings, respectively, before Zach Harris delivered a third-inning sacrifice fly and Hunter Slade added a run-scoring single. DePauw scored four more in the fourth as Deahl drove in a pair with a single and Kevin Ehinger knocked in two with a double.
Oglethorpe scored its lone run in the fourth after Mitchell retired the first nine Stormy Petrels in order. Tim Ernst led off the fourth with a triple and scored on Charles Coke's ground out.
Harris hit his second of three sacrifice flies in the sixth to score Deahl before the Tigers added their final three runs in the eighth. Ehinger delivered an RBI single before Harris added another sacrifice fly and Kevin McAteer drove in the final score with a single.
Deahl, Sipe and Ehinger each collected four hits for the Tigers with Slade and John Younger each adding two. Deahl, Ehinger and Harris each finished with three RBI.
Mitchell improved to 5-1 with five strikeouts and no walks. Brad Sims dropped to 1-4 after allowing eight runs and 10 hits in three innings.
The two teams square off on Saturday in a pair of seven-inning games.
