Danville, Ky. - Tyson Becker pitched five innings of two-hit, shutout ball to lead DePauw to a 13-0 rain-shortened Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory at Centre. DePauw improved to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in the SCAC, while the Colonels dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
The Tigers scored three in the first as Ryan Sipe doubled in a pair and Zach Harris added an RBI groundout. Four more runs followed in the third as Sipe led off with a homer before Harris and Greg DeBeer hit consecutive doubles. Hunter Slade then singled and advanced to second on a throwing error by the Colonels' center fielder wich allowed DeBeer to score. Slade scored on Kyle Dobbs' single to center.
Dobbs' infield hit with bases loaded in the fifth plated DeBeer, while John Younger's single up the middle scored Slade and Mike Gonzalez and extended the Tigers' lead to 10-0. DePauw finished its scoring with three in the sixth as Sipe led off with a double and Kevin Ehinger drew a walk. DeBeer then doubled both runs home and scored on Dobbs' fielder's choice.
The win was the 100th for head coach Matt Walker who is in just his fifth season with the Tigers. DePauw totaled 14 hits with Sipe, DeBeer and Dobbs each collecting three and Younger adding two.
The second game of the doubleheader was postponed. DePauw and Centre will play either two or three games on Sunday.
