Box Score Indianapolis - The Tigers took an 11-4 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning, but host Marian scored once in the eighth and seven times in the ninth to take a 12-11 win over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 5-8 with the loss.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with two in the first as John Younger led off the game with a single, Ryan Sipe was hit by a pitch and Kevin Ehinger doubled home both of them. The Knights scored one in the bottom half of the frame as Keith Waller led off with a walk and later scored on Dave Scott's two-out single.
Kyle Dobbs' bases-loaded single in the fourth extended the DePauw lead to 3-1, but Marian took its first lead of the game at 4-3 with one run in the fourth and two in the fifth.
DePauw scored five times in the sixth as Younger drove in three with a base-clearing double. Younger then scored when Sipe's drive to left was mishandled. Ehinger then doubled home Sipe to make it 9-3. Zach Harris hit a one-out double in the seventh and scored when Younger's drive to center was dropped. Matt Deahl and Sipe hit consecutive doubles to make it 11-3.
Scott led off the Knights' eighth with a double off of releiver Eric Mattingly and scored on Joel Strode's single to right center. The fateful ninth began innocently with a popout to second. Waller then singled followed by a walk to Brent Bangel. John Mutz doubled to left center to score Waller and Scott loaded the bases by drawing a walk.
Kerry Yoder drove in a run by being hit by a pitch before Mattingly struck out Shaun Murray. Three straight walks followed before Waller delivered the game-winning single up the middle which scored Strode and Ty Yoder.
Tyson Becker started and allowed just three earned runs and six hits over seven innings, while Mattingly suffered the loss in dropping to 1-1 on the season. Jason Back picked up the win in relief while allowing four unearned runs in four innings.
DePauw pounded out 13 hits on the afternoon including eight doubles. Deahl and Harris each had three hits, while Younger and Ehinger each had two. Younger drove home four runs and Ehigner finished with three RBI. Scott paced the 11-hit Marian attack with three hits followed by Waller and Strode with two apiece.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 20, when they open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader at Centre.
