Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - Visiting Mount St. Joseph scored twice in the first inning and it held up as the Lions defeated DePauw by a 5-1 score at Walker Field. DePauw dropped to 4-6 on the season, while Mount St. Joseph improved to 2-2.
Kyle Shadley-White started the game with a triple and crossed the plate on Donny Nagel's fielder's choice grounder. The Lions scored their second run when a wild pitch on a walk to Dave Novosel plated Josh Reinhart.
In the third Reinhart singled, moved to second on a passed ball and to third on a ground out. He scored on Nicholas Washington's sacrifice fly. The Lions added two more in the ninth on a single by Tyler Pille and then on a DePauw error.
DePauw's lone run came in the bottom of the ninth when Greg DeBeer drew a one-out walk, Chad Call pinch-ran for DeBeer and moved to second on Hunter Slade's walk. Mike Gonzalez singled to load the bases and Chris Newman delivered a sacrifice fly that scored Call.
Shadley-White collected four hits for the Lions, while Nagel added two. Matt Deahl had a pair of hits for DePauw. Chris Waite earned the win in his first decision of the season, while Reinhart notched the save. Tyson Becker dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
DePauw travels to Hanover on Saturday, March 13, where they will face Wisconsin-Platteville at noon and Hanover at 3:30 p.m.
