Senior Scott Hamer drove in four runs including two with a two-run homer in the third.
Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw (5-5) scored in each of the first four innings in jumping out to a 6-1 lead over visiting Franklin (8-2) before finally winning, 8-3.
Ryan Sipe, Scott Hamer, Jon Gratz and John Stephens each collected three hits for the Tigers in the win and Dave Edmonds allowed just two runs and five hits while striking out six in six and two-thirds innings. Edmond picked up his second straight win against just one loss. Justin Denney allowed one unearned run in two and one-third inning to notch his first save.
DePauw scored two in the first as Sipe and Jarrett Hunt each singled and advanced on Jason Geringer's groudout. Hamer then singles through the right side to score a pair.
John Younger's ground out in the second plated Gratz and pushed the Tigers' lead to 3-0. David Bedwell's single in the third brought home Jason Smith and cut the margin to 3-1.
Hamer made it 5-1 with a two-run homer to left that brought home Geringer. In the fourth, Sipe singled down the right field line to score Stephens. The Grizzlies added two more runs as Nick Phillips' seventh-inning sacrifice fly scored Marty Bowling and Casey Taylor's single in the ninth brought home Craig Bland.
The Tigers added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Jeff Bardonaro scored from third after Ryan Venturi was caught stealing at second. Geringer's single to right in the eighth scored Younger with DePauw's final run.
DePauw begins defense of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship when it returns to action on Saturday, March 23, at Centre College.
