Junior Daniel Mack struck out nine in the 4-1 win over Washington University.

GREENCASTLE, IND. - Daniel Mack allowed just one run in game one and the Tigers banged out 10 hits on the way to a 4-1 win over visiting Washington (Mo.) University. The Bears came back in the nightcap behind the pitching of Kurt O'Neal to take a 6-1 win over the Tigers and gain a split.

DePauw is now 23-15 on the season, while Washington is 14-13.

In game one, the Tigers got out to an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first when Jarrett Hunt, Javair Gillett and Scott Hamer each singled and Nick Horvath grounded to first to score Hunt.

They added three more in the third as Hamer hit a two-out single down the left field line and Nick Horvath walked. Dan Jones singled to score Hamer. Jason Geringer then tripled to center to plate Horvath and Jones.

Mack struck out nine and retired nine of the last 10 batters over the final three innings in improving to 4-5 on the season. Hunt, Hamer and Jones each had two hits for the Tigers. Dusty Deschamp, Greg Kriegler and Joe Kelly each had two hits for Washington.

In the nightcap, the Bears scored one in the first as Deschamp singled and Kriegler walked. Kelly singled through the left side to score Deschamp.

The Tigers responded in the bottom of the inning with a run as Hunt, Hamer and Jones each singled with Jones' hit scoring Hunt.

The Bears scored two in the second as Ramos Mays led off the inning with a homer to left and Kriegler hit a sacrifice fly that scored Graham McBride.

Andy Smith tripled home William Wooten in the fourth to make it 4-1. In the fifth, Kriegler led off with a double to left center. Kevin Lux advanced him to third with a single and Mark Glover doubled to left center to score both.

The Tigers failed to get a base runner over the last three innings as O'Neal finished with five strikeouts and no walks in pitching the seven-inning complete game.

Hamer led the Tigers with two hits, while Smith, Deschamp and Mays each had two for the Bears. Pat Creel fell to 4-1 on the season with the loss.

The Tigers host Marian College at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

NOTES: Javair Gillett and Jarrett Hunt each have totaled 62 base hits this season which eclipses the DePauw single-season record of 59 set by Adam Dill in 1999. Dan Jones and Steve Spasojevich continued their quest to top Dill's career record of 166 hits. Jones has now totaled 165 and Spasojevich has 165 ... With hits in each game Jones extended his hitting streak to 13 straight games. During the streak he is 25 for 51 (.490) and has collected 23 RBI ... Spasojevich extended his hitting streak to 11 straight and is hitting .388 during that time ... Hunt's two hits in the first game marked the 20th time this season that the junior has totaled at least two hits in a game this year.
