Junior Daniel Mack picked up his second win of the season in the Tigers' 7-3 victory in game one.

GREENCASTLE, IND. - A strong start in the first game lifted the Tigers to a 7-3 victory over Oglethorpe before the Stormy Petrels came back in the nightcap to take a 4-2 win and earn a split of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Walker Field.

DePauw is now 10-9 overall and 4-2 in the SCAC, while Oglethorpe is 5-10 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

In game one, the Tigers did what they hadn't been able to do all season - score early and often. In fact, DePauw's four first-inning runs matched their total number of runs in the opening frame of the first 17 games combined.

Jarrett Hunt, Javair Gillett and Scott Hamer hit consecutive one-out singles in the top of the first to score the first run. A wild pitch moved Gillett to third and Hamer to second before Jason Geringer's single to left brought home Gillett. Hamer was thrown out at the plate on the plate by Oglethorpe left fielder Chris Stanley. Nick Horvath then followed with a shot over the right field fence for his first homer of the season and eighth of his career to make it 4-0.

The Tigers extended the lead to 5-0 in the second as John Stephens tripled with one out and scored on Steve Spasojevich's single to left.

The Stormy Petrels added a pair in the third off of Tiger starter Daniel Mack as Drew Newell walked and moved to third on Ryan Meehan's single. Meehan then stole second and DePauw catcher Dan Jones' throw went into center field allowing Newell to score. With two outs, Stanley tripled down the right field line to score Meehan.

Sophomore John Stephens delivers a second inning triple in the first game. He finished with four hits in six at-bats in the twinbill.

The Tigers matched that in the bottom of the third as Horvath was hit by a pitch with one out and went to third on Jones' double to left. Jeff Bardonaro's fly out to center scored Horvath and allowed Jones to move to third to make it 6-2. Stephens walked and then stole second. Dan Torrenti's throw went into centerfield and allowed Jones to score. Oglethorpe then added an unearned run in the fourth to make the final 7-3.

Each of the Tigers' nine hitters collected at least one hit led by Hunt's three-for-three performance. Stanley and Brock Zauderer each had two hits for the Stormy Petrels. Mack earned his second win in five decisions by allowing just two earned runs.

In the nightcap, Oglethorpe's Bryan Kenna pitched the complete game victory by scattering nine hits over nine innings. The Stormy Petrels got all they needed in the fourth as Stanley led off with a double and scored one out later on Andy Crosby's single. Dan Kelly singled before Kevin Welch brought in Crosby with a base hit. Meehan walked to load the bases and Josh Blythe drew the two-out, bases loaded base on balls to score Kelly.

DePauw scored one in the fifth when Stephens picked up a two-out single, was moved to third on Spasojevich's base hit and scored on Hunt's single to left. The Stormy Petrels added a safety run in the ninth when Kelly's sacrifice fly plated Stanley who had earlier singled. DePauw also scored once in the ninth on Spasojevich's RBI single that plated Jones.

The teams meet again on Sunday for a doubleheader.

Senior Steve Spasojevich's ninth-inning RBI single in the nightcap brought the Tigers to within two at 4-2.
