Geringer named honorable mention all-Mideast

DePauw sophomore outfielder Jason Geringer has earned all-Mideast honorable mention by the America Baseball Coaches Association. Geringer led the Tigers with a .400 batting average along with five homers and 40 RBI. Complete All-Mideast Team

Three Tigers named all-conference; seven named honorable mention all-conference

DePauw first baseman Javair Gillett, left fielder Jason Geringer and pitcher Daniel Mack have earned all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors in voting by the conference's 10 coaches. Earning honorable mention all-conference were Dan Jones, Jarret Hunt, Scott Hamer, John Holborow, Steve Spasojevich, Brad Heizman and Jason Lee.

DePauw eliminated from SCAC Championship

The Tigers spotted Oglethorpe six runs in the first and one more in the second on the way to losing 8-7 and being eliminated from the SCAC Championship. The Tigers battled back with four in the fourth and three in the fifth with the last three coming on Javair Gillett's three-run homer. Oglethorpe scored the go-ahead run in the fifth on three singles. The Tigers finish the season at 23-13. Box Score

Tigers drop SCAC Championship opening game

Millsaps broke open a 0-0 tie with one run in the sixth, three in the seventh and 10 in the eighth on the way to a 15-5 win over the Tigers in the first game of the SCAC Championship at the USA Baseball Stadium in Millington, Tenn. Steve Spasojevich led DePauw with three hits, while Jeff Bardonaro followed with a pair. Seven Majors had multiple-hit games led by Matt Yglesias with four and Chris Pool and Jason Parsley with three each. In all, Millsaps pounded out 19 hits. DePauw drops pair of heartbreakers at Washington

Host Washington University swept a doubleheader from the Tigers and in each game the Bears' Ryan Mason delivered a game-winning base hit. The Tigers lost game one 6-5 and dropped the nightcap 9-8. Tigers rally to top Franklin, 8-3

DePauw came back twice at Franklin to defeat the Grizzlies 8-3. Franklin scored twice in the bottom of the second before DePauw knotted the score with two in the fifth. The Grizzlies regained the lead with a single run in the fifth, but DePauw scored three each in the seventh and ninth innings for the victory. Jason Geringer drove in two in each inning with a two-out single in the seventh and a two-run homer in the ninth. Geringer, Javair Gillett and Jeff Bardonaro each had two hits for DePauw. Mack named SCAC Pitcher of the Week

DePauw sophomore right-hander Daniel Mack (Lexington, Ky.) has been named the SCAC Pitcher of the Week for games from April 11-16. Mack picked up a 12-0 win over Sewanee on April 15 and in the process, struck out a career-high 15 , while walking just two and allowing only four singles in the seven-inning complete game.

DePauw splits doubleheader with Sewanee

The Tigers won a slugfest in game one, 20-13, but fell in the nightcap 11-8 to visiting Sewanee. Steve Spasojevich led SCAC Eastern Division champion's 23-hit attack with a five-for-six performance including a solo homer in the fifth and Pat Creel picked up the win in relief. Dan Jones and John Holborow each had three hits for DePauw and Scott Hamer drove in four runs. Five Sewanee players had three hits apiece as all 18 starters in the game had at least one hit in the contest. Game one box score

Sewanee took the nightcap as they turned an 8-7 deficit into an 11-8 win with two in the sixth and one each in the eighth and ninth innings. Adam Tamburello led Sewanee with three hits and three RBI. Game two box score

Tigers sweep Sewanee to clinch SCAC East

The Tigers took a doubleheader from Sewanee at Walker Field by scores of 12-0 and 9-3 to improve to 21-8 overall and 10-2 in the SCAC. With the wins the Tigers have clinched the SCAC Eastern Division title and the division's top seed in the SCAC Championship to be held April 27-30.

In game one, Daniel Mack limited Sewanee to just four hits while striking out 15 in seven innings in a game shortened due to the 12-run rule. DePauw scored six in the first with one each in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings before adding two in the seventh in the 12-0 blanking. Javair Gillett went four-for-four in the win, while Brad Heizman, Jason Geringer and Jeff Bardonaro each added two hits.

The Tigers scored six times in the third and twice in the fourth on the way to a 9-3 win in the nightcap. Heizman and Jarret Hunt each had two hits, while Geringer led off the seventh with his second homer of the day. Hunt drove in three runs and Geringer a pair. Tigers take big step to earning number one seed in SCAC East with sweep over Rose-Hulman

The Tigers took two from Rose-Hulman at Walker Field on Monday by scores of 4-3 and 11-2 and, in the process, took a huge step toward earning the top-seed in the SCAC East Division. The Tigers remain atop the division with an 8-2 record and are now 19-8 overall.

In game one, Dan Sadowski pitched a complete game for the Tigers, while Steve Spasojevich and Scott Hamer each collected a pair of hits as the Tigers took the 4-3 victory. The Tigers struck first in the third on Brad Heizman's sacrifice fly and added a second run in the fourth on Hamer's RBI double.

The Engineers tied the score with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before DePauw took the lead for good on Spasojevich's solo homer to left in the sixth. Jarret Hunt added a run in seventh by scoring on a wild pitch. Mike Krueger had two hits for Rose-Hulman. Game one box

Chris Hemmerlein pitched his first complete game of the season in the nightcap and limited the Engineers to just two runs in nine innings. Rose-Hulman took the lead with one in the second before the Tigers scored two each in the second and fourth innings. The Engineers picked up a single run in the fifth, but DePauw responded with six in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 11-2 victory. Tigers split doubleheader with Rose-Hulman

DePauw and Rose-Hulman split a wild doubleheader at Walker Field with the Tigers winning the first game 17-13 and dropping the nightcap 8-7 in 10 innings. In the opener Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, but the Tigers rallied with seven in the bottom half of the inning. The Engineers took the lead with three in the fifth and two in the sixth before DePauw regained the lead for good in the sixth with six runs. The Tigers added three in seventh before the Engineers put up five in the eighth. DePauw added a run in the eighth. Tigers fall at Anderson, 5-2

DePauw fell to 16-7 on the season after dropping a 5-2 contest at Anderson. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on Scott Hamer's single that scored Javair Gillett. The Ravens took the lead for good with three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jarret Hunt's RBI single in the seventh made it 3-2, but Anderson plated two more in the eighth for the win. Hemmerlein earns SCAC Pitcher of the Week honors

Tiger freshman Chris Hemmerlein (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) earned SCAC Pitcher of the Week honors after allowing just one run in six innings in a 15-7 win over Millsaps last Friday. Hemmerlein struck out five in his first collegiate start.

Tigers finish spring trip with 5-3 record after splits with Emory and Millsaps

The Tigers completed their trip to Atlanta and Jackson with a 5-3 record after splitting games with 12th-ranked Emory and Millsaps. The Tigers topped Emory 8-4 on Tuesday before falling 13-2 on Thursday. In a non-conference doubleheader against Millsaps, DePauw lost the first 6-3 and won the nightcap 15-7.

Tigers take three of four at Oglethorpe to move to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in SCAC

The Tigers came up short in the first game of Saturday's SCAC doubleheader at Oglethorpe by a 6-5 score, but rallied for a 7-3 in the nightcap and a sweep on Sunday by 9-7 and 30-4 scores. The 30 runs scored on Sunday were the most in the modern era by a DePauw team and the most since they scored 31 in a 1902 game. Tigers split doubleheader with Franklin

The Tigers handled visiting Franklin 10-2 in the first game of a doubleheader, but the Grizzlies rallied for a 7-1 win in the nightcap. DePauw jumped out to an 8-0 lead with three each in the second and third innings and single tallies in the fourth and fifth. Jason Lee earned his third win in as many decisions as he allowed just one unearned run over six innings. Brad Heizman collected three hits and John Holborow two in the win. Tigers sweep doubleheader from Centre; Sunday doubleheader postponed

The Tigers took two from Centre on Saturday by scores of 2-0 and 11-4 to improve to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in SCAC play. Sunday's, doubleheader, however, was postponed due to rain. Game 1 box score | game two box score

Walker named interim coach

Matt Walker, as assistant coach since June, has been named interim head coach for the Tigers, while veteran coach Edward Meyer is on medical leave from the University. Meyer entered his 36th season this year and will be on leave for six months. Walker, a 1999 DePauw graduate, set the school record last year with 79 strikeouts on the way to winning 10 games which is the second-highest season total by a DePauw pitcher.

Tigers improve to 8-2 with 11-5 win at Wabash

The Tigers scored eight times in the top of the fifth to erase a 2-0 deficit on the way to an 11-5 win at Wabash. Dan Jones went four-for-four, while Steve Spasojevich collected a pair of hits. Southpaw starter Jason Lee pitched seven innings to get the win. Box score

The Tigers moved to 7-2 on the season as they topped Hope 6-4 in the first game of a doubleheader at Walker Field and dropped the nightcap 6-3. Daniel Mack picked up his second win of the season in holding the Flying Dutchmen to just five hits and one earned run. Steve Spasojevich and Scott Hamer each drove in three runs in the win. Tigers no-hit Blast in opening game of doubleheader; win by forfeit in nightcap

Mark Boeckel and Adam Czerwinski combined for the Tigers' second no-hitter of the season as the Old Gold blanked visiting Indiana University-Northwest 11-0 in the opening game of a doubleheader. Brad Heizman, Jarret Hunt and Holborow each went two-for-three with Hunt driving in three runs and Holborow a pair. Boeckel started and struck out seven in four innings, while Czerwinski struck out two of the three batters he faced in the fifth. The Tigers won the second game by forfeit after the game was called in the top of the fifth when the visitors broke the last of their bats and were unable to continue play. The Tigers scored three times in the second on four hits to take a 3-1 lead over host Indiana University, but the Hoosiers came back with one in the second, one in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the seventh to take the 10-3 win. Tigers win three over Purdue-North Central on Sunday to improve to 4-0; Indiana up next

The Tigers made it a clean sweep in the first weekend of the 2000 season with three wins in a tripleheader against visiting Purdue-North Central. DePauw won by scores of 4-2, 4-2 and 13-2. The Tigers travel to Bloomington on Tuesday to face Indiana University at 3 p.m. Weekend box scores will be posted later.

Mack tosses no-hitter as Tigers open 2000 season with 10-0 win; three scheduled for Sunday

The Tiger baseball team opened the 2000 season in style as sophomore Daniel Mack hurled a five-inning no-hitter that DePauw won 10-0 over visiting Purdue-North Central. Sophomore Scott Hamer blasted a two-run homer to propel the Tigers to victory.
