Box Score 2 DePauw ends season with second-most wins in doubleheader sweep over North Central
With 3-2 and 9-3 wins at North Central, the Tigers closed out the 1999 season with a 26-13 record and finished with the second- most wins in school history. After trailing 2-0 in the first game, the Tigers scored once in the fourth and twice in the second for the win. Steve Spasojevich's sacrifice fly provided the winning margin as Kent Works took the win by allowing only one earned run and five hits. Matt Walker notched his 10th win of the season as he pitched four innings of shutout ball on the way to a 9-3 win. Walker's three strikeouts gave him 79 on the season and broke the record of 77 set by Biff Geiss in 1962. Dan Jones drove in four runs with a home run and a triple.
Tigers strand 20 in doubleheader loss
Kent Works and Matt Walker combined to allow just four earned runs in a doubleheader with Anderson, but the Tiger offense left 20 men on base in the two games as the Ravens won by scores of 3-0 and 4-2. The visitors did most of their damage early as they scored all three runs of the first game in the first inning and three of their four runs of the nightcap in the first two innings. Dan Jones was four-for-seven in the two games.
Tigers lose first game of doubleheader to Wabash 7-5 in extra innings; lose second game to Mother Nature
DePauw and Wabash managed to get in one of their two scheduled games and the Little Giants defeated the Tigers by a 7-5 score in nine innings. Wabash jumped out ot a 2-0 lead in the first before Dan Jones cut the margin in half with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning. The visitors scored two more in the second before DePauw tied it with three in the bottom of the second. Wabash took the lead in the fourth with a single run and the Tigers tied it in the fifth on Adam Dill's RBI double. Wabash won the game in extra innings as they scored twice in the ninth off reliever Matt Walker. Game two was called in the bottom of the first inning.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but Hendrix scored two in the third and three in the fifth to take control on the way to a 14-4 win. The loss dropped the Tigers to 24-10 on the season and knocked them out of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament. Bruce Fleck and Jeff Bardonaro each had two hits for the Old Gold. Adam Dill collected one hit and set the DePauw single-season hit record with his 54th of the season.
Trinity scored three runs in each of the first two innings to jump out to a 6-0 lead in the Tigers' first game in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and eventually beat DePauw 13-4. Dan Jones, Steve Spasojevich and Brad Fleck each collected two hits. Adam Dill equaled the DePauw single-season record with his 53rd base hit on a sixth-inning single. The Tigers take on Hendrix on Thursday.
Tigers sweep three-game series with Oglethorpe; earn number two SCAC East seed
The Tigers swept a doubleheader from Oglethorpe on Saturday by scores of 6-5 and 8-0 and a single game on Sunday 7-1 to improve to 24-8 on the season and 15-5 in SCAC East play. In Sunday's game the Tigers took a 2-1 lead into the eight before scoring five times to put the game away. In Saturday's first game, the Tigers scored three in the first and never trailed as Kent Works picked up his sixth win of the season and Steve Westman notched his second save. Brad Fleck homered for the Old Gold. In the nightcap, Matt Walker pitched a two-hit shutout for his ninth win and John Holborrow drove in four including three in the eighth on a one-out double.
The wins, coupled with a Rose-Hulman victory on Saturday, solidified the seeds for the SCAC tournament next week. Rose-Hulman earned the top seed, DePauw number two and Centre the third.
Sweep gives Tigers fifth 20+-win season in last six years
With wins over Wittenberg and Washington (Mo.) on Sunday, the Tigers improved to 21-8 and notched their fifth season owith 20 or more wins in the last six years. The Tigers toppled Wittenberg in the first game 14-5 and later beat Washington 6-3. DePauw scored eight times in the first two innings and Kent Works struck out 11 as the Tigers beat Wittenberg. Matt Walker struck out 10 and allowed just three runs in the Tigers' win over Washington.
Tigers sweep Sewanee to improve to 19-8 and 12-5
DePauw put an end to its three-game losing streak in a big way as the swept Sewanee in an SCAC doubleheader at Walker Field by scores of 8-0 and 11-6. Jason Lee and Dan Sadowski combined for the five-hit shutout in the first game, while Adam Dill, Steve Spasojevich and Bruce Fleck each knocked out a pair of hits. A seven-run eighth inning broke open a 1-0 game. In the nightcap, the Tigers banged out 18 hits led by Dill's four and three each from Dan Jones and Jeff Bardonaro. The Tigers have now clinched one of the spots in the SCAC Baseball Championship to be held in San Antonio, April 21-24.
Tigers fall at Rose-Hulman; slip to two games back in loss column in SCAC race
The Tigers dropped a 5-3 decision at Rose-Hulman to fall to 10-5 in SCAC play and 17-8 overall. DePauw jumped out to a 3-0 lead with single runs in the first, third and fifth innings, but the Engineers rallied with two each in the fifth and sixth innings and one in the eighth for the win. Brad Heizman went four for five in the loss while Dan Jones and Jeff Bardonaro each added two hits. Matt Walker lost for just the second time in nine decisions this season and Rose-Hulman's Andy Cain went to 9-0 with the win.
Franklin sweeps DePauw; pivotal SCAC showdown at Rose-Hulman next
The Tigers dropped a pair of one-run games in a doubleheader at Franklin on Wednesday to fall to 17-7 on the season. Franklin plated two in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Tigers 8-7 in game one. DePauw then dropped the nightcap by a 5-4 score.
Tigers sweep three-game set from Centre to improve to 17-5 overall and 10-4 in the SCAC
Jeff Bardonaro's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday plated pinch-runner Kent Works with the game-winning run in DePauw's 5-4 come-from-behind win over Centre. The Tigers scored twice in the ninth to take the victory. DePauw also swept a doubleheader from the Colonels on Saturday by scores of 8-4 and 5-0.
Tigers and Engineers split twinbill; DePauw still one game back in SCAC East
The Tigers dropped the opener of a twinbill with Rose-Hulman at Walker Field by a 13-0 score, however, they rallied in the nightcap for a 15-4 win in the nightcap. The split leaves the Tigers' overall record at 14-5 and their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference East Division mark to 7-4. Rose-Hulman is now 15-8 overall and 8-3 in SCAC games. The Engineers' Andy Cain blanked the Tigers in game one and scattered just four hits as his team pounded out 23 base hits of its own. In the second game, DePauw totaled 17 hits and scored in seven of eight innings to back up the solid pitching of Matt Walker who went all nine innings and allowd just three earned runs while striking out 11. Seven Tigers collected two or more hits led by Bruce Fleck with three (single, double, homer) and Adam Dill's three. Dill, the leading hitter in the SCAC became DePauw's all-time hit leader with the three-for-four performance. His 140 career base hits tops the mark of 139 held by Leon Curry (1992-95).
Tigers conclude spring trip with SCAC split against Oglethorpe
The Tigers concluded their spring trip on Friday with a doubleheader split with SCAC foe Oglethorpe. The Tigers won game one 11-7 and lost the nightcap by an 8-5 score. Adam Dill picked up six hits in the twinbill to lift his career total to 137 which ranks second in DePauw history behind Leon Curry's 139. The split leaves the Tigers with a 13-4 overall record and a 6-3 SCAC mark. It also gives them a 6-3 record over the break. The Tigers host SCAC rival Rose-Hulman in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.
Emory scores three in eighth to break tie and beat Tigers, 6-3
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third on RBI doubles by Adam Dill and Brad Heizman, but 15th-ranked Emory battled back with three each in the fourth and eighth innings to take a 6-3 win. Late-inning heroics give Tigers 6-3 win at Emory
DePauw and Emory locked up in a pitcher's duel in Atlanta and it was the Tigers prevailing by a 6-3 score in 10 innings. The Tigers broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the ninth before Emory sent the game into extra innings with a run in the bottom of the ninth. The Tigers then scored three in the 10th for the win. Tigers score 32 runs in doubleheader sweep of Clark Atlanta to improve to 11-2
The Tigers moved to 11-2 with a doubleheader sweep at Division II Clark Atlanta by scores of 14-1 and 18-2. In the first game, Nick Horvath continued his hot streak as he homered twice including knocking out a grand slam in the fifth. In his last seven games, over a seven-game span, the sophomore has homered six times and driven in 18 runs. Brad Heizman picked up three hits and drove in three, while Jarret Hunt had two hits and two RBI. Freshman Daniel Mack allowed just two hits in pitching the five-inning complete game. In the nightcap, the Tigers scored four in the first and 10 in the second on the way to the win. The Tigers swept a doubleheader at Sewanee on Saturday by scores of 7-4 and 18-7 before falling short on Sunday in an 11-10 loss on Sunday. Nick Horvath homered three times in the two Saturday games, while Kent Works and Matt Walker picked up the victories on the mound.

The Tigers pounded out 22 hits in the first game of a doubleheader with host Rose-Hulman on the way to a 17-6 win over the Engineers. The Tigers dropped the nightcap 4-2. The split leaves the Tigers with a 7-1 overall mark and a 3-1 record in the SCAC.
Tigers open SCAC play with sweep at Centre
The Tigers opened the SCAC portion of the schedule with a doubleheader sweep at Centre. DePauw won the opener 12-11 and the nightcap 5-2.
No. 500 for Coach Meyer comes on Weekend Sweep
DePauw baseball coach Edward Meyer picked up his 500th career win on Sunday as the Tigers completed a four-game sweep of visiting Purdue University-North Central. The Tigers won on Saturday by scores of 10-0 and 8-0 and again on Sunday by 11-8 and 20-3. DePauw plays its first two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games this weekend when it travels to Centre College.
