Tigers Continue Roll; Summers Ties All-Time Victory Record

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Tiger bats came out of hiding in Monday's doubleheader at Marian as the Old Gold pounded out 22 hits in sweeping the twinbill, 5-4 and 6-2.

The wins lifted the Tigers record to 21-12 overall and gave them 15 victories in their last 18 outings.

In the opener, Jeff Summers picked up his 22nd career win and ran his all-time record to 22-4 as he hurled a complete game and allowed just one earned run. The Lousiville native tied the al-time mark of 22 set by Chris Cox (1991-94).

The Tigers scored twice in the top of the second as Mark Maier's ground out plated Barad Heizman and Jared Johnson's double scored Eric Peterson. Rob Kiburz's sacrifice fly in the fourth scored Tom Fagan to make it 3-0. The Knights took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Old Gold battled right back with a pair in the fifth as Peterson singled home Tom Heldt and Adam Dill Greg Seitz, Dill, Peterson and Mike Thieken each collected two base hits.

In the nightcap, the Tigers again jumped out in front with three in the third as Seitz and Johnson each drove in single runs with base hits and Bill Cartwright drove in one with a double to the fence in center.

The hosts scored once in the third off of starter Kent Works, but the Tigers came back with a pair in the sixth on Heizman's RBI singles and Johnson's run-scoring double. Marian scored their other run in the sixth and the Tigers added a single tally in the seventh on Cartwright's RBI single.

Works improved to 6-1 with the win and Jeff Hartzell picked up his second save after retiring all four batters he faced � the last three by strikeouts.
