Box Score 2 Greencastle, Ind. -- It took Tiger ace Jeff Summers just 72 minutes and less than 70 pitches to dispose of visiting Rose-Hulman in the first game of an ICAC doubleheader at Walker Field on Wednesday as the Old Gold won 2-0.
Summers (4-1) had total command of the contest in allowing only a fifth inning single to Rob Nichols.Only three Engineers reached base and none made it past first as the Tigers also turned a pair of double plays.
Rose-Hulman standout Eric Tryon pitched an outstanding game as well, but the Tigers scored a single run in the third on Tom Heldt's RBI single and another in the sixth on Heldt's sacrifice fly.
DePauw jumped out on top in the second game as Rose-Hulman pitcher Matt Sims committed an error that allowed Bill Cartwright to score. They added two more in the third on Greg Seitz's two-run homer to right and another pair in the fourth on Adam Dill's two-run single. Dill went three-for-three for the game. Tiger starter Kent Works pitched four scoreless innings to go to 5-1 and gave way to Summers who finished for his first save.
DePauw hosts Washington (Mo.) and Wittenberg on Sunday. Game times are 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
